Cobb AP first impressions

Well just installed the AP with v105 Stage 1 SF 93 map. Got it for a christmas present and I must say I am very pleased with it so far. Very easy to install, only took 30 minutes to save ECU data, and like 30 seconds to flash the map I wanted.

I behaved myself on the way home, put 50 miles on her without going WOT. But even without going full boost I could definitely tell this thing has improved things greatly. The engine feels smoother, even shifting seems improved. The one time in 3rd gear that I actually used some boost, but only like 10psi it definitely threw me back in my seat more so than before.

I tried monitoring some things while driving, but being a noob not really sure what to look for. LTFT were at -2 while slowing down in gear, and between 1 and 2 while accelerating. I also know that AFR are important as well, but not sure what the numbers are supposed to be. I want to make sure everything is safe before I start driving this thing hard. If anyone with the knowledge could post some stuff for me to look out for I would appreciate it!

I believe you should have a 14.6-14.7 AFR at Idle?

On WOT, depending on mods, should be mid 10's to low 11's.

I'm not entirely sure on that one but that's what i think it should be. I'm sure someone here can clear this up.

Your LTFTs near perfect so you are fine. The ideal target is 0. AFR should be in 14s at idle and DD. 13s when accelerating hard (part throttle) and 11s at WOT. 10s is fine and 9s is a little rich but safe during WOT , but you want AFR in the 11s at WOT. Should also keep a eye on KR. You don't want any so KR should always stay 0. When you do see KR(and you will) tell us under what conditions it's happening might not be a big deal. I love my AP too and have not have any problems. Congratz

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, my mom and step-dad(also a gear-head with an M5) are very generous so they got it for me. Now my only problem is trying to find a way to get the wire inside my dash somehow cause I'd like to leave it hooked up while driving, but don't want it to look ghetto. Bought a universal cell phone mount from verizon.

Unfortunatley Hugador. We see 13's for AFR's at partial throttle boost applications, but it isnt good for the car. Thats why these motors go under partial boost and get part throttle KR. Mazda's attempt @ making this car good on gas, is its own double edge sword.

But. i may getting my Cobb AP soon. Woohoo.

Well I started to monitor KR as was suggested. And after a while I did notice that I was starting to get some, but rarely. I tried keeping an eye on the AP for when exactly it was happening but not the easiest thing to do, especially since when I was getting KR it seemed like it was only a milli-second and by the time I got my eyes over to the AP it was back to zero.

But anyway, from what I can tell I never get any knock in 1st- 3rd gears. The most I've gotten so far is 6. What's unusual to me is that sometimes I get small amounts of knock while shifting between 4th and 5th. For the most part I noticed knock in 5th and 6th gear, not even while boosting, sometimes just letting off the accelerator I'll get some but only for a second. I wish I could be more precise but it just seems to happen sporadically for no reason at all once in a while. Is this normal?

Do your vehicle justice by having it pro-tuned through your AP. It is amazing how crude the ots map will feel after having it done right! The ots map only gets you part way there. Trust me, a couple hours of tuning are more than worth it!

A quick short burst of KR seems normal. It could be a false reading or partial throttle Knock like mrmazda329 explained. It is hard to tell exactly what is causing KR but as long you are not getting it a continues matter(stays on for longer than a sec or two) I say you are okay. I get them too now and then. Heck even a fully stock motor and those with a pro tune get KR lol. And yes I would like a pro tune but i'm not dne with power mods yet.

Since you're running the AP, I would definitely upgrade your cdfp sooner than later. I was able to make it through the various bolt-ons ok, but I think I had maybe 2 good wot runs with my AP before my stock pump took a dump!

that's crazy you got fuel cut with the mods you have. The only thing I don't got that you have is a cbe

I know down the line I will need to get a new pump or just better internals, but for now my fuel psi is very good so not too concerned atm. Sucks that yours went so soon.

I can't be mad at the pump for failing so early, simply because of how I treated it. I put a bunch of parts on the car starting at mile #1000 and didn' tune it until mile #27,000! I was getting 200 miles/tank, so I know that pump was working like crazy to waste that much fuel! There's only so much time you have before something fails when you bolt parts on, leave it up to the ecu to communicate with those parts, and then drive it like you stole it. My buddy's still going strong on his stock pump on his '07, probably because the AP was his second mod after intake.
