Cobb AP Discussion Thread

Cobb AP Dyno Feature

Can anyone tell me how accurate this is? I realize that for the most part it is a simulation of wheel horsepower. I'm just trying to find out if the numbers it spits out are typically close to real values.

I've posted the dyno run as well as a 15-20 minute datalog below. Please feel free to comment on both. This is my first time doing any sort of electronic tuning with a car. (I only ever had muscle cars to play with.)

Edit: After looking at the two files I've attached it looks like I'm having a bit of a detonation issue. This is probably why I'm seeing such fluctuation in the power output on the dyno file. I will probably be looking at a set of colder plugs to help remedy this as I'm already running nothing but 93 octane fuel.

FYI, this is a Stage1 +SF 93 v101u map off of Bova's website.

Hey BlenderCloud, looks like the AP is working ok for you :)

I think even Cobb recommends getting the step colder plugs; I installed them before running the AP maps (stage 2) and only got an occasional 0.35 or 0.7.. maybe 2 or 3 single instances over 20 minutes of hard driving. So that may be a good (probably necessary) first step to solving your troubles, especially if you see the KR behavior like in those datalogs fairly often.

Thanks for the advice! I'm enjoying the AP. My girlfriend rolls her eyes every time I plug it in to the car. I've already got a set of Denso ITV22's on the way. I ordered them from LTB Motorsports for $48 shipped. They should be here Wednesday I believe.

Here is the 2nd and 3rd WOT that you asked for. Lots of KR. Help me Bova-wan Kenobi. You're my only hope!

Your knock isn't bad at all. Which map are you running? Log once you get the ITV22's in and see what changes.

What would you think about Water + Methanol injection to reduce combustion chamber temperatures (and subsequently reducing knock)?

It works, but I'm not that well-versed in the details of it. Maybe someone else can come here and comment on that.

Sounds like I will be doing a "How-To" on this toward the end of the summer. Talk about trial by fire.

I won't be tapping into my stock intercooler though. I'll buy an ETS replacement and start from there. I would imagine that doing water+methanol injection will probably require some sort of special tune as well.

Bova, any thoughts?

i don't like the fact you are seeing knock in the 3 range at WOT. just try doing WOT of 3rd gear only. also don't log so many things. you don't need coolant temp, maf voltage, stft, vehicle speed, fuel inj amount, act valve timing, and intake temp. you are just slowing down the AP's ability to log faster which is why you are only getting data at about every half second. slim it down to about 10 things.

I will do that on my way home tonight. It will be posted around 8:00 PM Central time.

Thanks again for the input guys!

Here's the log from WOT in 3rd gear today. There was some delay in the AP that I didn't really realize so I missed the lower end of the gear, but I think you're getting what you're looking for. Look at that KR!

Wow, that's a bit high at WOT, and why is your LTFT so high?

I honestly don't know man. I'm pretty new to the electronic tuning. I came from carburated chevy V8's. :(

i dont think this is a good map for you. if i were you i would try a stage 2 map since you have a test pipe. this is more than likely why your LTFT are so high.

You've got the same mods as me, with the exception of the intake. Try the Stage 2+SF 93 v101c map and that should do the trick. You'll be happy with the performance. Remember to break it in properly though, 50 miles of easy driving.

Let me get this right on the LTFT though... the higher that number, the richer you're running? If that's the case, it explains why I just got 180 miles on half a tank of gas. Granted, in that half tank I've done a few WOT logs and whatnot.

I'll change this tomorrow before work. Guys, I really appreciate your assistance. I hope I can return the favor soon.
