today when drive i heard a clunk from the engine bay, i have been running stock boost for 2 days now , what do u think the nosie is ?

I too have a popping/clunking noise from what seems like the engine bay. The noise intermittent, however. It only occurs when I am coming to a stop and when the nose of the car "rises up" just before the termination of my forward motion. I have had two different Mazda technicians in the car, but could never reproduce the popping noise in their presence.

I have the updated 156A front bushings, thinking they would solve this issue, but they did not. They were lubricated with white lithium grease before installation as well.

Anybody else?

Sorry to revive this, but my MP3 just began experiencing this. Out of nowhere too. I can't tell if my front bushings need to be lubed, or if something else is going wrong. It is described just like above. As the car is coming to a complete stop under moderate braking, there is a popping/clunking noise somewhere from the front.

If I brake extremely lightly, nothing, if I roll to a stop, nothing.

Thanks,
Chris

I have the clunk from the front too. Heppens just like Professor says.

I can relate to your problem. I hear a clunk when i start the car and move out of first gear. After that one clunk i dont hear it ever again until i start the car again. I also went to the mazda dealer and the clunk wouldnt happen when the tech was in the car. Its funny how things work out like that. But to stay on the topic i also have the clunk and have no clue what is causing it. (uhm)

I have this too, especially over rough surfaces...sounds alot like the "other" clunk, only in the front this time. Not to be confused with the front "crunch" heard during cold weather.

subscribing, mine's starting to do it again, going to take the front passenger wheel off and check the brake caliper.

mine does something similar to that as well...when im sitting in the car, and even outside of it, sometimes i can hear this faint clunking..knocking...noise very faintly...like someone is tapping on a glass window with their knuckles or something. only happens when the car is idling, does it when it first starts up and after its been running, but doesnt always do it, weird...

I just saw this old thread and thought I would report back. Well, as best as I can remember, this "problem" of mine resolved itself some time last spring. I did not do anything to fix the problem since my last post the popping simply stopped on its own. It has not returned since. I am at a loss to explain why this happened.

Yup, still have it loud as ever....I'm dreading taking the car to the dealership, since my warranty is out.

yep same here with the warranty

I brought mine in to the dealer and they replaced the bushings. Never heard a clunk since then. that was prob about 3-4 months ago.

same here!!! Everyday at 4:20 (when i leave work...what were you thinking (boom07) ) i start my car, wait a couple of mins for it to warm up and as soon as i lift the clutch and get some motion -crunk- then i don't here it anymore. Asked Mazda but what do they know, feels like we're test pilots for these cars...we own them so we can iron out all the minor thingys that go wrong!

i had possibly the same problem........... and my axle broke while i was driving the other night.

not even beating on the car at this point. if the clunking suddenly gets VERY loud... DO NOT MOVE YOUR CAR ANYMORE. I really can't tell you if I had the same clunk that u guys are talking about... but to me it sounds similar. I thought the noise was my new exhaust because its tight against the rear bumper and i thought the noise was my flex pipe trying to flex too much...

At any rate.. when it broke I was going like 20mph and my tire got wedged against the back of my passenger side fender.. it wasnt pretty.

I want a msp but threads like this make me doubt my wants.

Its the nature of the beast man....but trust me the pro's totally out weigh the con's!

It almost feels like the brakes are still engaged....like the caliper tightened on to the disk during the day, and that first "push" unstuck it?!?! ~CRUNCK~

if ever a thread was to be bumped, it's this one. There seem to be enough of us on here (including me) who report the same prob from the front end.

Updates?

Mine clunks upon get go from first when cold (and rarely into second), but sometimes continues to vibrate when it's cold. Then... goes away when the car get's just a couple miles away from home.

WTH! Anyone have any updates on their problem? I'm nervous. I don't even drive with my radio on anymore b/c I'm trying to listen for all the f'n I'm-about-to-break-in-half sounds coming from every angle. lol.

I'm getting a winter car next year.
