hey guys for some reason now and im above 2k rpm and i just leave the accelerator just a tad pushed in i can hear a clicking sound by the engine im not sure what it is but if someone can help it would be helpful..and it doesnt affect the way it runs..

dude^^ same here man.

I'm at 150k on my car. I could say it sounds like a clicking also, but i like to say mine sounds more like knuckles being cracked.

This sound only occurs when i'm starting in first gear at any acceleration point (driving straight or even turning), and if i let off the gas with my gear still in (either first or second) and i tap the gas, the cracking noise will be heard. As soon as i'm in third, you can't hear it at any acceleration point.

I've replaced all my motor mounts, end links (front and rear), and i'm about to replace my struts in the next month.

It's really hard to describe, but that's the best explanation i can give.
I've had my car up on the lift, and still can't seem to see spot any leaks etc. I'm going to put it up again on the lift, and accelerate while on it, and see if it still makes the noise while the wheels are off the ground (and i might even take the wheels off to see if that'll help narrow it down).

Any thoughts??

Same issue here. Started about 2000 miles after I had my clutch installed. (Stock) What could this be. It clicks around the drivers side wheel when I start out in first gear, when I shift to other gears, and when I left off the accelerator between 20-30 MPH. Any ideas anyone?

i have the same problem i have a 2002 mazda protege dx the only mods are headers, high flow cat, exhaust aem sri???

Yup I got the same issue here to and I have 87k on it. It's when I first start it up when the motor is totally cold, goes away when car is warmed up. I was thinking the shutter valves in the intake manifold or something like that, possibly the vtcs butterflies ticking around. I hear you can remove those though.

It was my spindle nut (axle nut) on the drivers side that came loose. They reused the old one when putting my vehicle back together. I bough 2 axle nuts from Mazda ($20) and replaced the drivers side (correct torque applied)and indexed it. No more clicking when starting out. Hopefully this helps others in the future.

Thanks,
Nathan

Dude, that sounds like a good start for the orginal clicking noise when starting off from a dead stop. I'll check that out.

Still have engine ticking though(scratch) eeff!

Hey guys I have a MP3 with 175K on the dash and once our engines get some miles on them...they tick. click, tap..what ever you want to call it. I know that our cars oil system is not that good. I have bad valve seals on my car because of the oils that ive used. I will be replacing my cyclinder head cause of the bad seals. With our cars once the mileage goes up you have to make sure to check the oil level and pressure cause of the bad oil systems we have. So my lifters tick pretty bad I just make sure that there is enough oil in the car and I am good to go.

I have the same problem, i posted my original thread above. But here is a link talking about the problem http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123619298
it would make sence that a couple screws on the VICS are loose casuing the valve to flap back and forth when you introduce air into the IM (when accelerating). I picked up a 626 intake mani last night and going to throw it on early next week. If i see some loose screws or missing screws on the runners i will let you guys know. Hopefully i get it done before the screw comes out and goes into the cylinder.
