Clicking sound coming from engine- please help (long)

my engine was doing that clicking noise for like 3 days straight, and then it went away, mainly because the engine blew. it would only do it at certain rpms. i would take it in asap and drive it very gently until it gets fixed

Yeah, I put the stock intake back in for the visit to the dealer, and there's no more clicking.

The engine still stumbles at idle, though. It wants to stall but doesn't. Think that's due to the shutter valve? Will a weak battery cause this to happen?

What's Up Lee? if your engine still stumbles, check the EGR valve cleaning thread in the How-to section.

did you reset your ECU when you put the stock intake back in?

I'm guessing your tick is the same tick I have, with is the purge valve, cause I have my on my stb, I'm going to try and fab a bracket similar to the one that John (Ronin) has in his.

Okay first verify that the new stuff you got in there is not loose. Since the rpms can change when teh car is warmer, it can shake at different frequencies. Now if thats not it, the I saw pasadena_coconut start talking about the pilot bearing. Currently my car makes this continous ticking noise, and when I push down the clutch pedal, it goes away. If your car has the same symptoms then its probably it. Its doesnt mean that your car is going to break, but if you do some tranny work down the road, replace that pilot bearing.

I dont feel like dropping the entire tranny for the bearing, so I will probably replace the clutch too if it comes down.

my pilot bearing makes some noise once in a while ever sice i installed my fidanza lightweight flywheel.......it makes a light ticking/squeeking noise when idling but goes away when you give it a little gas. don't think it is that bad though......

Sounds like the problem I had. Mine started after an accident which the body shop ran my car with little\no oil in it for 1\4 tank of gas. It would make a metallic clanking sound that was most prevalent against a wall or curb. 2nd or 3rd gear at a certain RPM it would get louder and then after that point it would go away. A half dozen dealership visits later with no result other than 12 hours of drive time and pretty much a week of wasted time I gave up and just traded it in and said good riddance.

After putting the stock intake back on, the ticking went away. I didn't reset the ECU, though. I just drove it about 125 miles over 3 days. The engine was still stumbling this morning on my drive to the dealer to drop it off for the shutter valve recall. The check engine light came on as well. Think that's 'cause of the valve? Hopefully the studdering will be gone when I get it back tonight.
On a side note- I dropped my car off at the Mazda Gallery in Norwood, and the service guy was very cordial. They even offered me a free rental car. A co-worker was there to pick me up, so I didn't need it, but I was surprised and happy they offered. Hopefully they'll be as nice when I go to pick it up. :)

Is There A Chance That A Car That Has Not Been Flagged For A Recall Can Have The Same Problem, Mine Is A 2002.5 And Its Doing The Same As Your Describing For The Recall, However At Mazda It Says Its Not Recall, Can This Be Possible And If Not Are They Going To Work It For Free?
