2000 protege 1.8 L. Check Engine light comes on from time to time. I replaced the cat converter and the light has come on again. Autozone checked code and said that it is the cat converter. I explained that it had been replaced last week and they said a build up of carbon in the system is cause. They sold me a fuel additive to run through with tank of gas. They recommended that the fuel additive would reduce the carbon in the system and the check engine light would go off.
Any experts out there on this subject. Will I need to reset the computer or if the sensor sees a reduced amount of carbon will it just go out?
