i just got my car alarm and keyless entry installed on my mp3 and afterwards the check engine light was on. as im driving it flashes on and off. guys at best buy who installed the alarm said they had to remove a bunch of wires from a previous alarm system that was no longer there and that might have triggered the check engine light. there shouldnt b anything mechanically wrong with the car, i just wanna to turn off the light. anyway i can do that without takin it to the mechanic?

if the light is flashing, that is saying there is somthing SERIOUSLY wrong with the car, no alarm install would cause this. if they removed any wires that would cause it to flash you need to take the car back and haven them undo whatever they did because they should not have touched them in the first place.

My guess is they beat the living hell out of your car and the engine is going to fall to parts in a matter of minutes.

i thought they werent allowed to install alarms on manual cars? am i wrong on this?

I'm with Aricjm15 on this one, it sounds like they might have cut something out they should not have cut, or spliced into something they should not have spliced into.

If it was not happening before you had it installed, they definately did something wrong. I don't have any idea if something will happen with that or not (the CEL being on) but you should take it back before something does happen. Just my .02

i did take it back to em. they did a shift change during my install, so one guy did like half and another guy finished it off. the first guy seemed to have tried to install the wiring for a remote start even tho i have a stick and the keyless system i bought did not have remote start. when i drove off from the store after it was installed, it was smoking out the muffler really bad, white smoke. the car would barely drive, had pedal all the way down and it was just seemed to be choking. i then called the store and talked to a manager. i took the car back and the guy cut out the TAC wire and that somehow stopped the smoking and now the car seems to drive fine. but of course the check engine light is still flashing

I don't know man, I still think something is not right about that. I'm speaking from my point of view of course but, if it were I who brought my car in for something and picked it up not the way I dropped it off, I would keep taking it back untill it was made correct. You know?

TAC wire?

If the check engine light is flashing, the engine is misfiring, or it thinks its misfiring.

that's your problem right there, never ever let anyone from best buy or circuit city install anything on your car (no offense to those who work in these areas that actually know how to do the stuff) cause the Merritt Island one and Melbourne ones are terrible
