You can always take it to Autozone and they will read the code for free. Because I have a CAI my dealer requires me to pay first then get a refund if the CEL is not related to the intake.
Is this common practice for guys with a CAI? Does it matter if it is a MazdaSpeed intake or not?
Personally I've never heard of this kind of treatment and I would have to find a better dealer unless you only have one to choose from.
On another note...my car is in the shop...again! This is the fifth cel it has thrown in 10,000 miles of use and it's getting a little tiresome.
But I have had the re-occuring power loss issue and this last one was for lack of power while it sounded like it was just blowing straight out the blow off valve while I tried to accelerate, just a loud air/whistle sound and no power, but after a little highway cruising I tried to spool up the turbo and off it went with no problem. The cel did not show up until the next morning, but I did not have that problem again when the light came on.
I also have an intermittent (i.e. continuing) power loss issue... when cruising on the highway recently I leaned into the gas to pass a poke before I got trapped behind him and the turbo tried to spool up but just dropped off and made a fast clicking noise like your car would make if you tried to start it with a low battery, no power, so I get off the gas get back on it and off it goes...I have had it reflashed like three times now and it still happens without any real warning.
I had the purge valve replaced after waiting months for the new style to come in from Mazda, dealer called earlier tonight...it's the purge valve again, I thought it was fixed with the updated valve, guess not.
I can't see this car staying in my driveway past the warranty if this keeps up, for that I need trust in my car, and right now I don't have much accept for the fact it hasn't stranded me on the side of the road...yet.(nuts)
