Check engine light on at only 2200 miles

The light has not returned. The day I made an appointment at the dealer it mysteriously went away...

The CEL in my eclipse (caused by the CAI) would go on and off too. But it would still read the same error code regardless if it was on or not. Don't know if this car is the same or not. I would imagine so though, because on my way to my appointment, mine went out and they still were able to tell what the issue was. Maybe it logs previous errors?

You can always take it to Autozone and they will read the code for free. Because I have a CAI my dealer requires me to pay first then get a refund if the CEL is not related to the intake.

Is this common practice for guys with a CAI? Does it matter if it is a MazdaSpeed intake or not?
Personally I've never heard of this kind of treatment and I would have to find a better dealer unless you only have one to choose from.

On another note...my car is in the shop...again! This is the fifth cel it has thrown in 10,000 miles of use and it's getting a little tiresome.

But I have had the re-occuring power loss issue and this last one was for lack of power while it sounded like it was just blowing straight out the blow off valve while I tried to accelerate, just a loud air/whistle sound and no power, but after a little highway cruising I tried to spool up the turbo and off it went with no problem. The cel did not show up until the next morning, but I did not have that problem again when the light came on.

I also have an intermittent (i.e. continuing) power loss issue... when cruising on the highway recently I leaned into the gas to pass a poke before I got trapped behind him and the turbo tried to spool up but just dropped off and made a fast clicking noise like your car would make if you tried to start it with a low battery, no power, so I get off the gas get back on it and off it goes...I have had it reflashed like three times now and it still happens without any real warning.

I had the purge valve replaced after waiting months for the new style to come in from Mazda, dealer called earlier tonight...it's the purge valve again, I thought it was fixed with the updated valve, guess not.

I can't see this car staying in my driveway past the warranty if this keeps up, for that I need trust in my car, and right now I don't have much accept for the fact it hasn't stranded me on the side of the road...yet.(nuts)

Now I'm nervous . . . my CEL went on a few days ago (edited...1500 km). . . it was in the dealership for service today and the tech said they had to order a new purge valve & would call me when it arrives . . . and they flashed the latest update.

Now I'm experiencing reduced power / there's still lots but i have to get way deeper into the throttle . . . it just doesn't have that amazing punch that it had last week.

Result of the flash. It does lower power to 270HP I think...but overall, the car drives better. The valve thing seems to be common on 06 models. I have mine in twice for it. Once they did a modification to it. The second time, they replaced it.

Wow . . . i recall paying for 275hp (protest)

My car is an '07 . . . just how asleep at the wheel has Mazda been, if this EXACT same problem has existed from one model year to another?? Just what has Mazda been doing??
I want back that incredible BLAST of power (drive2)

Oh you have an '07? Those were 270HP from the door anyways.

I didn't think they needed a re-flash either, since it's the way they come standard. Are you sure about the year?

Is it cold where you are? My car is a whole different car when it's colder out, as in it feels slower, which should be the complete opposite for a car with a turbo.

Well it sure doesn't feel like 270 anymore.

(uhm) I'm quite sure about the model year of the car I just paid $40,000 for, yes.
As for the flash, I can only assume there's been an update to the on-board computer?

I live in Canada. It was below freezing (temp) when the CEL came on last week, but its above freezing now. But it has been considerably (!!!) colder in previous weeks, and the car ran fine.

I was about to say $40,000, OMG, but I realized that's Canadian dollars, and yes it was to the ECU. It should have been done to the 07 before you even bought it. Unless there's another one, and I'm running from it like the plague. Only reason I asked about the year is because you are describing problems of the '06 model that shouldn't exist with the '07 model from what I've heard. Anyways, what happens is the valve freezes and gets stuck. People in Florida don't have that problem.

So in Canada, the MS6 was released before its time? 'Cuz it gets real cold up here, and it stays cold for months.

On a positive note, so far at least (observation only) I seem to be getting way better mileage.

cheers

My CEL just came on. I'm at 3400 and haven't had a chance to take it in for its first oil change. Will the CEL come on when your car is due for an oil change or is this something more serious?

I'll check the gas cap when I leave work.

Just be sure to have them check the purge valve solenoid and have them reference the TSB. That should make sure they fix it right the first time.

i had my first oil change on thursday, and yesterday on the way home from work it clicked on. i did fill the tank up with the radio on the other day, so that could potentially be the cause....but i dont want to go back to the dealer again...

I checked my gas cap and it was fine. A few days later the light went out...so perhaps it was the gas cap. (dunno) I'll prolly have the dealership check it when I go in for my 1st oil chnage

I've been in for the purge valve TWICE in the first 5,000 miles. Currently at 8,100 miles. After another purge valve (which I am expecting) I might consider pursuing "legal" action.

It is a PITA, however, what is a bigger inconvenience is the fact that this CEL requires TWo trips to my dealer. One for them to read the CEL, another for them to order in the part. Makes me reconsider future automnotive brand purchases.

On a side note, I have not yet seen any 2007 MS6 on my local lot...

You look to be in my land...Who's your dealer?

Weelll, Mine's back on again. Guess I'll have to take it in after all. I hope I get a decent rental. Man I hate driving slush-o-matics.

just got back from the dealer, yup. purge control solenoid. its on national backorder now...great....

any bets on which will come in first? this or the advanced keyless receiver??
