Ceratec brake grease.

I’ve often said that I detest copper based grease on brakes but I thought I’d share this.

If you mount alloy wheels onto steel hubs, they will corrode to the point of needing to knock them off. Two years ago I removed the wheels from a mates RAV4 Hybrid to underbody seal it. It was literally brand new. I applied a small amount of ceramic based grease to the bore and today, we removed them to bleed the brakes. Just look at the condition. The wheels were not stuck at all and you can still see the machining marks.

Another smear and they are ready for another tour of duty.

What*s wrong with the copper one?

It*s clay based. After a short period it congeals and becomes more of a hinderance than a lubricant. Add brake dust to it and all you can do is scrape it off. Ordinary bearing grease does a much better job.
