Cel

OK, here is the deal. My car is bone stock and always has been. I got the dreaded CEL approximately 2 months after buying it, approximately in March of 2007. I took it in to the dealer and the mechanic said they had been getting a lot of those, something about a valve needing a slight adjustment. Since then, no CEL's. I have only taken my car in 2 other times for warranty related service since: 1. Engine mount replacement bolt/mount, and 2. That emissions recall, something about the swirl valve. The light came on driving to work today seemingly at random. And yes I know I can get it checked out at Autozone and it is hard to say what it is without knowing the code, but any ideas? Also what is the length of time stuff like this is covered under our warranty? I guess I will be calling for an appt. today. I am going to check if it is still on the next time I start my car. I will keep everyone updated. Thanks.

well of course without seeing the code, or without any symptoms the car may be showing no one can determine what the malfunction may be. Now if you still have a warranty they should cover it.

I called to make an appt. and am taking it in next Monday. The CEL is still on after letting it sit for an hour. My old car, the CEL would come on after going over 50 mph. I just let it go for a year or two, passing emissions once. Eventually it stayed on all the time. It failed emissions and I needed my EGR cleaned, but passed on re-check.

They are actually giving me a loaner this time. They refused a few months ago with the emissions recall for some reason. Maybe it was because I had them change the oil as well since I was already there. They said it is still under warranty for this. What is the warranty period for issues such as this?

Alright, just got a call from Mazda dealer after bringing it in this morning. They said it is some 2-way purge valve related to emissions that requires replacing. They will be getting the part tomorrow and replace it under warranty.

Yeah I just had that done for the 2nd time. Mine unfortunatly was out of warranty and my dealer wouldn't replace it for free even though I had it done in Feb 08 and its a common problem. I called the Mazda NA number and talked to a customer service guy and they said Mazda would pay for my labor but I would have to pay for the part and diagnostic. Still better than nothing! Hope it doesn't happen again! Glad to hear you got it done and under warranty!

2nd time? That sucks. How could that not be covered under warranty? When did your's expire? Is this just a problem with the MS3 or regular 3 as well?

Just out of curiosity, what do you think the expected test drive mileage should be after work like this. I had 4.1 miles on it afterward. What concerns me most is that EVERY mirror was adjusted and EVERY seat position possible was adjusted, basically into a G-ride position with the seat fully reclined, seat pan tilted back, and seat pushed all the way back. Unless this guy was 6' 10", I do not see the need to mess with all these adjustments just to test drive it afterward. I think adjusting front/back should be all that is necessary. I spent 10 minutes before leaving just fixing this, and it still does not feel right.
