I find them annoying rattletraps that are always in the way.

I don't think the Mazda cargo cover rattles around. It looks like a solid piece

About how much does it cost to get the cargo cover installed by the dealer?

Or is it simple enough to do it yourself? (Any tools needed?)

It is self install. You will need to remove it while loading bigger cargo.

The cargo cover in my 16 is the beast I've ever come across. It is under tension so never rattles and goes up out of the way with the door open. It is a fine mesh so you can see through it and on the occasions on summer evenings when I leave the door up, it stops the gnats from getting in the car! It's a brilliant idea and if you pay extra in some locations, I would still buy it.

It should only take you about 5 to 10 seconds to install. Couldn't be any easier...(headbang)

I bought an after market version for $95 shipped. It works great, but isn't a mesh. It looks just as sturdy as the one I had on my CX-7.
