

Amazingly enough, here is a 5 year followup on this project. First, I was very happy when I looked back at the original photos of the CX, and compared the shots then and now. The finish has really held up well, as has the vehicle in general. If one reads through this thread, he'll find I was torn between a top loader, and this Rola rack and bag combination. In short, fuel savings over a top-loader, and accessibility to cargo contents on the road were the tie breaker. I am happy to say were I making this same decision today, I would do exactly the same thing. I cannot over emphasize the value of the 7" riser, which gets the bag and rack up out of the way of exhaust, and rocks and debris. It also makes contents accessibility much easier. In the photo with the lift gate open, you see two kennels, but what is harder to see is the full size recliner behind it, along with various bags, sacks, and a great deal of etc.. (!) In the cargo bag are two vacuums - on their way to college age grand kids - and a ton of hanging clothes a certain person (not the driver) bought on sale at Dillards "extra 40% off sales, and a lot of etc's.. (!!) With the load distributed to the Rola, I was able to see out of the top half of the rear window. The lighting kit has held up fine - in fact the "fire truck red" LED turn signals are brighter than the CX. With the bag in place it is necessary to move the tag to the carrier. I'm not selling these things, but they really do help distribute the load. I'm sure everyone has heard of the really tough rains we had in Texas and Oklahoma in the past couple of weeks, and I am happy to report that the waterproof bag earned it's keep on this trip. Not a drop in the bag. It is an Australian product designed for the Outback - I don't think we'll hurt it running up and down I-35!
