Car sound pics

Ah, I see you have a HO box, very nice.
I had a customer kill both the sub and the 500/1. Same setup just he had the 10w7 HO box.

Looks good to me, simple and clean, although I think the kicks can be better blended in with minamal work.

thanks..

what do you mean better blended in? With the carpet or plastic/vinyl??? What do you mean, your opinions are appreciated.

I have heard that quite a bit about blowing those subs in the H.O. box..

It's because (no offense) these stupid fu&$ing people don't use infrasonic filters.. HELLO!! If you don't know car sound, why are you buying this expensive high end equipment for.

It's really making the W7's look bad too, but it's simply because they don't set the filter and they use bass cd's to show the amazing bass off and POW, it's blown.. Anything below 28-30Hz should not be played in the H.O. box..

Give me some pointers and opinions man..

Its a very nice install but I agree, the kicks could have been done better, they look like they're designed for a 5.25" or small 6.5". Someone here had a nice set made for their P5 but i checked the post and the pictures are gone. I can saved them on my computer at home if you want to see. They don't take up any floor space.

What's the deal with those boxes? How do they sound?

they look like they're designed for a 5.25" or small 6.5"

guys, I just don't understand..

What do you mean they look like they are designed from 5.25" speakers..

Inside of those are 4" and a 1" tweeter, why would you want them any bigger than that.. the imaging is spectacular and the sound produced by the 3-way set is just phenominal..

I mean granted they are NOT the best looking kick panels ever made, but for 14 hours of labor and paying only $400 I can't complain to much.. I had them designed so they could easily be removed from car and not damage anything, and so they could also be resold EASILY..

They can be vinyled or painted, just a little more bondo and labor required..

I know you guys aren't doggin me, that just doesn't make sense that you say they look like their designed to hold 5.25" speakers..

Comments are welcomed and ideas are worth a million..

thanks guys..

Well the removability of them is a definite plus. With that requirement they are fine, but if you cut up the existing kickpanel you can utilise the space behind it. I don't know how much the other guy paid for his but I personally would prefer cutting panels if it meant I still had foot/leg room.

The kicks seem to stick out way to much for just a 4" and tweet. Not being able to move the stock panels is ofcoarse the reason for that. By blending in better I mean that they in no way look like they belong in the car. The color doesn't match and they don't smooth out and just blend into the car to look almost like a factory piece.
For $400 though I wouldn't have even expected that mutch.

As for the subsonic filter, yes the ported box makes that a must but the dip s*** factor doesn't help. I set that on one persons amp and they still cooked the W7 just from distortion.

I think my kicks were done to the right amount, still allowing room for feet movement. The vinyl color looks alot different in person than it does in the pics below. It matches much more closely to the original color.

Those were the ones I was talking about....you removed them so they don't show up in the original thread.

I'm going to print them out and take them to some shops to get quotes....I just don't think I have the time, and I want to enjoy a nice system this summer, not labor over constructing one.

You talkin about mine? Fixed the links in the original thread.

-Rider69, those are very nice kick panels.. I really like those.. As for leg room and stuff, I really don't even notice them to tell you the truth.. (and I'm not a little guy either)

people who ride with me, they don't really bother them either.. I think they just look really big, but their really not.

I got them for $400 cause I know the shop that did them really well.

I wish they did look a lot more stream lined, but sound quality is what I was really looking for and I got it.

So I guess in the long run, if it works for me then I'm happy.. I really like them, just wish they looked better.. OH YEAH, and a major plus we took a ball pien hammer to the kick grills, and not even a dent.... VERY strong s***.. That was another thing I requested..

Show more pictures of kicks in proteges..

For those who want to know, Rich's Car Tunes is probably the best shop in the Boston area. They have had numerous installs featured in just about every car audio magazine out there. If you go to the shop, instead of having amplifier wiring kits and stinger gear on the walls, they are plastered with magazine articles featuring their installs (hey that rhymes). They also run an installer school.

Anyway, this was their quote after sending them Rider69's photos.

Dear Christopher,
We would estimate that it would take around 14 hours to fabricate kick pods for your Mazda and our labor rate to install equipment not purchased from us is $95/hour. The materials would cost around $150.00.
Thank you for visiting Rich's Car Tunes

So that's about $1500 plus the cost of the speakers (which for a $1500 install better be in the $7-1000 range to benefit from the price)

I know I can do kickpanels, I just don't think they will come out that good.

Then I must feel special, I only paid about $400 for mine. Now, granted, for competiton ready kicks, it would have been more. I told them that I wanted to retain the "dead pedal" and that I did not want them to stick out too far to obscure my leg movement (I am 6'2" and need the leg room. This, of course, played a factor in determining the final product and I am sure for a competition setup they would have aimed better and I would have lost some leg room.

Honestly I don't trust Rich's many of the former installers were some real shaddy assholes.

If you want dead on ballz the best in Boston then that is Derrick Kenney over at Sound-In-Motion.

The labor rate at rich's is retardidly high.
They should be easily able to replicate the kicks with extra time to aim them for no more then $800 total.

I was thinking $1000 but I don't know what their rate is if I purchase the items from them. I'm doing my g/f's myself so if they turn out well, I'll just use those pictures as a starting point for my own...I too am 6'3" and must have the dead pedal to stretch my foot out.

I gave up on having a dead pedal a long time ago.
Ofcoarse thats becuase of the 6.5" component in the kick though.

that's almost the same audio set up i want

I just recently made up my mind to replace all of my stock car audio. I was considering one ten inch w7 and replacing all the stock speakers with jl audio and possibly adding some 1" highs. I was told by a freind that you shouldn't but anything less than 1000 watts on a 10 inch w7. How does that 500 watt amp work for you? Also I will be adding a 300 watt amp for my highs and mids. Any other suggestions?
