Hi, I bought a Unichip from Mazda3online and just have done installed it. the unichip makes the car feel alot different but there's a problem that I have after I installed. How when i drive the car, sometimes when I get to the red light or a stop sign, the car die at idle. could it be a leak?(braindead I have check all my vaccum line and there's seem to be no leak. any advice would be appreciate.

Unichips seem to have an awful lot of idle problems...I dunno about an 800 dollar computer that tweaks out my idle.

How much have you driven it after the install? There is a good chance that your car is still relearning. I don't have a unichip (yet), but i looked at the instrucions and they said if you have bad idle, this may be the cause of it. So if you don't have a BOV venting, with your MAF in the stock location. And no Vac leaks, then i say drive it around more. You need to put it through drive cycles, so some freeway driving and some stop and go city driving should take care of it.

Did you disconnect your battery during installation? Change your spark plugs when you installed the UC? Do you have a boost gauge hooked up?

I suggest disconnecting your battery and letting the car relearn. Start it up and let it idle for 5min and then do some city driving. Run the A/C and turn on the headlights half the time so the ecu learns to deal wtih increased loads as well as base conditions. It'll take a few drive cycles.

What kind of gas do u have in the car? I installed mine friday night/sat. morn. and when I hooked the battery back up the alarm started going off like crazy, scared the stuff out of me. Then it would beep once and then it was over with, took 10 mins to start so the computer could learn. I would try resetting the ecu thats what I had to do after the alarm incident then at first I had an idle problem pulling it out of the garage. Took it for a few good runs and now everything is perfect.

Installed boost controller wrong? Leaks in this area might cause stalling.

Where in MN are you from? I haven't see you around at all, only blue MSP I see is Kyle.

I've met Kyle once (I THINK). anywayse, back to the UC. the mods i have are: 3 inch downpipe , 3 inch custom exhaust pipe, boost guage, a/f ratio, UR Crank Pulley, Nology Hostwires, using the UC EBC I am using premium 93 gas. the boost guage read at 13-12 then drop to 10psi. I did follow the manual instruction on installing the UC and everything are correct and yeah I have reset the ECU Twice already. But I have not yet change my sparkplug do you guys think that could be the problem? Otherwise Ill try to reset the ecu for the third time see if it can help.

are you running a fmic? cause when i installed my turbo kit, i was a having a stalling issue at idle and i move the maf to the pipe before the tb and it works great now!

No, I am not running a FMIC yet. I guess I will try what you say to see if that will the me with the idle problems. I just found out another problem too, rolling my car at 70mph highway, when i release the gas padel and step on the clutch, the car die suddenly if i re-lease the clutch, the engine came back on. ANY IDEA? ANyone?..

It's just stalling like before, the only diference is that you are starting the engine with the clutch not the starter...

i think you have a vacuum leak somewhere. I had the same situation as you are explaining.

when i installed my injen intake, the vibration must have broke off that nipple on the turbo > intercooler pipe, creating a huge hole. It must've broken off during my drive on the freeway cuz it was fine for a few days. anyways, there was traffic on the freeway and i started to slow down so stepped on the clutch and put it into neutral. i stalled and i was going about 40mph. i put it into 3rd and released the clutch and it started back up.

check for vacuum leaks, big or small ones.

Are you venting with a BOV? Or do you have the stock setup, with no BOV?
I am runing stock IC pipe and stock B.O.V. except the intake. Ill will double check my bov pipe bwt the IC pipe and turbo pipe. Does the Unchip help our MSP car with the fuel cut too or I have to buy the FCD seperatly?

Thanks.

actually by comparison to other Protege systems, the Unichip is very stable as an EMS, especially being that it is plug and play. i would attribute this particular problem to a vac leak, especially if it occurs primarliy when not under load. if you are referring to Paul's situation, I would attribute his problems (as I would attribute all of his car's problems) to the person who installed his mods.

you do not need a Fuel Cut Defenser with the Unichip.

Definitely check for boost and vac leaks. A lot of idle and stalling issues come from the hotside plastic charge pipe and the wastegate vacuum line to the intake manifold. I suggest replacing that line and getting a replacement hotside pipe. Also, some people have had problems with a clogged EGR. I will have a EGR block off plate soon for people who dont wanna deal with cleaning the damn thing. Also, check your plugs if they are fouled and plug wires for shorts if you have any misfire idle issues.
