Car Battery Registration Reset

I have an idea. Let's add a bunch of useless technology to our cars.
You might not say that if you ever owned a BMW whose expensive AGM battery lasted close to ten years. Battery management systems work, but if they do add cost.

Well with a name like "GrampaSlade", it sounds like it may be your last vehicle period!;)
As far as a new one goes, that's truer than you know. This summer, my goal is to go back to the old style cars. Electric seats, electric windows, auto dimming headlights, glass smooth ride, finger light steering and room to stretch out. Something in the 60's era Caddy.

What you just described most certainly does not sound like a '60s era Caddy, except for the room to stretch out comment.

Both my 2016 MX and my 2016.5 CX are still using the original OEM battery. We're talking at least 8 years old now, perhaps 9, and both are still doing the job just fine.

That's phenomenal battery life. But knowing how small Mazda OE batteries are, I would have replaced them by now to be on the safe side.

I feel the batteries used in the later years have a lot of reports of not lasting as long. It looks like a cheap lead acid battery to me.

depends on drive style and climate. Usually can last 5-6 yrs but some people buy crossover and go grocery shopping with it or just city driving short distances. Thst doesnt charge the battery properly and Eventually it dies due to frequent undercharging .
The problem on the cx5 is also the regulated charging mode it has preset from the computer. It uses the ford stupid logic for 13.7 +\- for economy.

On my 2014 Touring I replaced the factory (Panasonic) battery at 5 years and 8 months old because it was cranking slower than I liked @30*F in November at the onset of winter. The battery itself was actually ~6 months older due to the car's manufacture date. My driving is predominately "local" so mostly short trips. Started fine for the last 5 winters so it couldn't have been too much undercharged from short trips.
Just on a related note, recently I commented about how the O'reilly Superstart Premium that replaced the original was still good at 5 years old. Well it wasn't good for much longer. It lasted exactly 5 years (Nov 2019 to Nov 2024). It went downhill fast. Decided to take a chance and try out Walmart Everstart Maxx @$140. That same Superstart @O'reilly is now $195 (I paid $140 back in 2019) and Advance Auto wanted $215 for the equivalent! Went ahead and bought a battery tester so as to periodically track battery health as time elapses and replace proactively.
** After seeing how fast the new battery cranks, the old one must have been progressively getting weaker without my really noticing.
