Car Battery Registration Reset

You might not say that if you ever owned a BMW whose expensive AGM battery lasted close to ten years. Battery management systems work, but if they do add cost.
I have a BMW with an AGM battery. I have had it since 2009. I have changed the battery 3 times(on my 4th battery now). They certainly don't last 10 yrs in my experience...

That's phenomenal battery life. But knowing how small Mazda OE batteries are, I would have replaced them by now to be on the safe side.

As I said elsewhere, I use a battery tender on all of my vehicles. I have two tenders, and I move them around between all of them. I usually keep the tender on for 5 days of so before moving on to the next battery.

As you can see, this process seems to help keep batteries healthy for a long time.

I'll probably replace those two batteries this summer, we'll see.

All of my vehicles have had long battery life.

It is not resetting the battery per se, it is programming the new battery with the Mazda system. One needs to do this if your Mazda has iStop or iEloop (some '16-17 GT models). You need to get an AGM battery and programming by the dealers... cost? $400-500 in CA.

On our Audi it was a matter of having a scan tool with the ability to edit the battery registration info. All that had to be done was to change the serial # that was stored so the system knew the battery was changed. Most people just incremented the last digit by 1 or 2. I am not sure if the Mazda system is similar, we do not have iStop (thank gawd).

Decided to take a chance and try out Walmart Everstart Maxx @$140.
I live in MN, so lots of cold temps here (and remarkably, pretty damn hot in the summer too) to affect battery life. My last battery was the Everstart Maxx and it worked great. At 4 years I noticed that cranking was a bit slower, so I replaced it with another Everstart Maxx. My OEM Panasonic lasted 3 years. I replaced it with an expensive AGM battery. That one lasted 4 years. Decided to go cheaper than AGM with the Everstart Maxx and I've been very happy.

With my previous (Australian spec) CX5 diesel with iStop I replaced the battery twice and never had to do anything like registering it. It was exactly the same as replacing the battery in any other car.

Cannot confirmed for iStop, but my Mazda6 ('16) with iELoop needs to visit dealership on every battery change (4-5 yrs, done twice already). Cost is more than $500 (CA cost).
iEloop = AGM battery + SuperCap + re-gen braking + clutch-controlled alternator. All those to save you 1mpg... so Mazda claimed
