you could, but I doubt they'd sound any good. They'll be running free-air style back there, so you'd prob get better sound by using those wedge-shaped speaker boxes. I don't like'em cause they can become a projectile under hard braking or cornering, but you can prob secure them down to the cargo cover, and they should stay put.

Don't do it...just don't. Its so ghetto.

1) It will sound like ass
2) The whole cargo cover will vibrate (aka, sound like ass)
3) The sound waves from the rear of the cone will bounce around in your hatch and cancel out the ones from the front (aka, no bass response)
4) Your subs will be pushing air up on them
5) The cargo cover is not stiff enough to act as a baffle
6) Its advertising for people to steel them
7) 6x9s suck.
8) It looks dumb
9) It looks dumb
10) It looks umm, dumb

I just wanted to get my point across before the next thread you post is titled "WTB: P5 Cargo Cover"

I was actually thinking about doing that for my 8" subs...then mount the amps below. It would be sweet and take up 0 hatch space.

well if you glass a proper enclosure and make it one solid peice i guess you could
Why in the name of jesus H monkey christ would anyone do that for 6x9s?

There was once once upon a time on a lesser mazda site who did, and was rather proud of it for quite awhile. This was back when I had the energy to putforuth the extended version of what chuyler said.

IN the end, if it makes you happy , do it.

The reality of it, if you care at all about sound quality, just abandon the idea, do some searches, ask a couple questions if it all hasn't been covered, and we'll let it slide...

I will never understand the subwoofer fetish.... making a perfectly good utilitarian automobile unusable. Then again I am a rocker not a rapper.... hey s*** I like a little NWA or Public Enemy from time to time like any normal person... but damn. If I ever put a subwoofer in, if, it would be one of those Infinity all-in-one deals maybe... that's just a 10" with an integrated amp and takes up little space. Like Ron Popeil says "set it-- and forget it". But to each his own.

Even classical music benefits from a subwoofer. Listen to the LOTR sound track with and without a subwoofer and you'll know what I mean. Whether its an all-in-one unit, an 8" sub, or 2 12" subs, you need something to emphasize the low end frequencies which are drowned out by road noise. If its done right, you wouldn't even know it was there.

Oh totally agree. I've never done a NICE car stereo before but I've heard a few. I'll do a sub this time... but just see these deals that take up the whole entire area of the P5s minimal behind the backseat cargo space and do a little bit of WTH! But to each his own. Not to mention the weight. (OK I'll shut up now... now I'm the turbo guy who drifts into the N/A forum and tells people to just get turbos.)

get the **** out of the audio section(argh) you don't see me in the turbo threads asking why you need to get up to speed faster, which helps for a few seconds, and instead recomend a good sound system, cause you'll benefit from that at ALL times in your vehicle. if you wanna go fast, get a bike or a sports car rather than an economy car.
