Camshafts

Here's the problem, If you get billet blanks the base circle is 50 thou smaller.Mazda does not offer a 50 thou shim.So the valve train geometry is off with out it.Now you can either get different valves or run the FS-ZE cams or regrinds..

hahahhahahaha beau = pwnage....

or without finding 50 thou shims..

good info beau i have been researching cams here lately and now with all this i have more to learn about.... and Mesa owns! i was born there... (nana)

We have been playing with this and ran into this problem. We going to build a 500-600HP protege and need the head work done.Well we found another problem. So we are working with it right now.

If you want custom shims or longer valves, talk to the guys at Paeco. They can solve all your valvetrain woes. They can do whichever cam your mind can dream up too.....

Just don't be in a hurry to get them back. They supposedly do good work, they just dont do it in a hurry. Which I guess is better than doing a crappy job quickly. :)

(They have been working on a head for me for 3 months - quoted completion time 6 weeks). I have to remember to never believe estimated completion times.

So they're still not done Scorch? I can't wait to see how this turns out....
Unfortunately no Josh. I am being patient because I have heard they do good work and they are fairly close to home. I also have a short block sitting in the garage (waiting for them to finish the head before they start that), but I may have to go ahead and deliver the block to them now, so they can get started on it. It may take 3-4 months for that work as well.

Luckily I am in no big hurry, really waiting around to see who gets engine management working on a fs-de N/A first. Plus this s*** is expensive, so the long time allows me to replenish my savings account. :)

sorry if this is a threadjack,
