Has anyone put these into there P5's??

... if so how are they. Was there anything else needed to do prior to the conversion. I have currently done the basics. Intake, header, exhaust, ACT clutch, and alum flywheel. So now i need to do something else. So either I will do the cams and pistons, or a small turbo(probrably not), or 50 shot of wet nitrous.

Tell me your expieriences with any of these.

turbo. forget nitrous. dont worry about cams or pistons unless youre talking about forged pistons.

What do you mean it's not worth buying cams unless you have a turbo? Cams give the most significant gains on an NA fs-de and they make a huge difference if he ever does go FI (turbo or super :D) I can understand what you mean about the pistons, but I genuinly dont understand why you think that cams are not worthwhile.

As you can tell, I do think that cams would be a good mod, but there are units that offer more power than the Mazdaspeed ones. The Wagner cams come to mind, and I think there are others as well but I can't recall what they are right now.

who said they weren tgood unless you have a turbo? i was saying that a turbo would give the best gains dollar per hp. i said dont worry about cams and pistons alltogether unless he was talking about forged pistons.

So you mean it's not worth buying cams unless you get forged pistons? That makes even less sense. I actually think I understand what you're saying, that the package of pistons and cams arent useful unless you have FI, but I assume you agree that cams by themselves are helpful, right?

I can tell you first hand that thier cams are pretty sweet. Noticed 10hp difference minimum. Their alternator and water pump pulleys sure work really nice with the Unorthodox Racing Underdrive pully. Noticeable power gains overall. It's been a year since install and car runs great, no regrets. SR has quality stuff. I'm a little surprised to see that very few people purchase their products that I've seen so far on this forum. Received products promptly and packaged carefully too. Leslie is really nice too. She'll probably be the one to talk to. O.K? Later and peace.

you do not want to have both the mazdaspeed/jspec intake and exhaust cams if you go turbo. the overlap caused by the increased duration will cause detonation.

.... i know you dont want to run the cams and pistons if you go turbo..... i will clear this up somemore..... 1. cams and pistons n/a or 2. small turbo system, or (3) a 50 hp wet system.

Now if i did the full n/a route I would eventually do gears also. As there is no way I could get the HP I want out of this engine. I am not to found of turbo. To much maintenace required with them, and it is quite expensive up front. Lastly from what i know some people love it, others hate it. Nitrous. Now I have heard of horror stories with the dry application with our engines, but I have heard good things about the wet system with our engines. Something about how the Protege's ECU does not adjust fast enough to dry, which causes a lean situation to detonation. Now I might have some of that mixed up.

What do you think is the best route.

no man, not at all. he listed a whoel bunch of mods. i told him basically to forget EVERYTHING and go turbo. dont bother with a few hp from cams or pistons, just go turbo. and nitrous sucks. then i mentioned, that unless he meant forged pistons, forget them too.

Ohhh, okay I gotcha now. Yeah I agree with you there.
