Cam Install how to?

Just wondering if anyone can e-mail the pages from the Manual for doing a cam install? Or anyone who has done it...any particular info I should know? Pretty simple swap? I have the torque specs, just be nice to have the pics and "correct" steps to follow.

go to http://protege5.ugly.net - that's the workshop manual. gives you a pretty good idea on what you need to do, other than that, take your time, write down where bolts etc come from, measurements before removal of the cams, and most importantly, get your hands on a torque wrench.

what cams are you installing?

if anyone else on the cams issue reads this, has anyone made up cams yet? or am i about to be the first? i've spent ages researching cam specs...the mazdaspeed and jdm just arent enough. in the tuner world they are still an extremely mild cam.

Maybe you can take pix and do a how-to.

hey

well first of all the specs i'm going for - both intake and exhaust :

duration @ 0.050" 225deg
advertised duration 266deg
lift 0.355"

that's a fair increase over stock and a good increase over mazdaspeed and jdm stuff too.

i bought blanks off mitch @ protege5online and i'm going to get those reground.

now about research, i didnt keep any web sites, but i spent a lot of time emailing companies asking them (like crane cams etc, even though they dont make a cam for our car) what i'd expect. i mainly looked at specs they had for cams for cars similar to ours and ran with that. worked out what i want the cams for, where i'd expect to find the power range (should be from 3000rpm up with those cams). i looked closely at miata camshaft specs.

i'll be getting my cams ground after i get back from holidays (mid april-mid may), so early june i should have them ground and installed. i'll be doing the install myself, so i might do a how-to while i'm at it.

hey twilight, i do believe it is extremely illegal to copy that manual, much less put it up on your site...uhm, i dont know what to say. thats just wrong.

hey

it's not my site. i believe it's been put up by mazdamotorsports (hence the logo and login stuff up the top)

i have no idea what country that shop manual came from. it's definately a left hand drive market manual. i was certain it was american or canadian because only in those two markets is the hatchback version of the car referred to as the protege, alsewhere it's the astina (australian and new zealand), famila s-wagon(japan), and the uk calls it a 323.

dont know about copyright problems, considering mazda motorsport put up the page....doesnt that mean that if the company makes the material available for free that it is public property and copyright doesnt matter? oh well doesnt matter, i'm just glad i saved myself a heap of cash and got it for free :)

I almost feel like cancelling my order:eek:

last week, I ordered the manual from the dealer :'(

It's not entirely wasted though, when u work on the car and u're all greased, working on the family computer is kinda of anoying... but still... I coud of just print the pages I wanted....
