Caliper question

:
2002 Mazda Protege LX
I will be doing a 5 lug conversion using msp hubs and knuckles. I was thinking about going with p5 rear calipers, my current lx front calipers, p5 rotors all around and pads. Would this caliper/hub/ rotor combination work? Just wondering since im using msp hub assemblies and the msp has bigger calipers and rotors that the p5.

pics of the parts.

Any advise would be helpful.

Thanks

All the brakes are the same for rear disk cars except the msp. Honestly if you're spending the money go ahead and get the msp brake setup or Mazda 6 brakes while you're at it

I have a set of 04 mz6 calipers. pads and rotors but all the threads i've read says 15" wheels wont fit. That's the reason why im looking into p5. unless someone can confirm otherwise..?

Can anyone give me a confirmation on fitment? I just measured the discs and they are 11.1" diameter.

I'd suggest getting the MSP rear calipers if you can. P5 calipers have a ridiculously stupid P-brake mechanism that is known to seize up. Frequently. They are also, in my experience, not always leak-proof.

I can't say whether they're less leak-prone (maybe I just got a couple lemons in a row) but the MSP rear grabbers have a much more common P-brake setup that doesn't seize, and makes life a lot easier when doing a brake job.

NINJA EDIT: Also - http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/show...rake-upgrade&p=5683261&viewfull=1#post5683261 The whole thread is a great read, but that one post should help identify what you're looking at, maybe.

Looks like the MSP rotors are 16mm larger than the P5/LX rotors. Might not be able to use your LX calipers with MSP rotors. But P5/LX rotors ought to fit just fine.

I was reading that whole thread. Here people mentioned that you need minimum 16" wheels in order to run mz6 big brakes..

Yeah, I made several edits as reading comprehension slapped me around. At some point I said heck with it, let it stand. (lol)

I think that will be true, having to have 16" wheels. The caliper for the MZ6 brakes simply won't fit inside a smaller wheel. If getting new wheels is out of the question for now, I'd suggest going with your LX front calipers with LX/P5 rotors and pads, and MSP rear calipers/rotors/pads. I'd also suggest hanging onto those MZ6 brakes for the front until you can get bigger wheels. I'm not sure but I think you'll need the caliper brackets for that, too.

I thought the same thing as I was reading the thread. What you mentioned was going to be my alternative to this whole issue but I just would a mx6 thread which states 03-05 mz6 brake upgrade will work with 15" wheels. There's only one way to find out! lol

Now to tackle this ebrake cable problem. After speaking with Brian_MP5T; he mentioned that people might have used protege front cable as the rears from a mz6. Anyone on 247 try this retrofit? Any success stories??
