WHen installing a Big Ben CAI..I ran into a problem..just as I was about to finish, i went to put in the Intake Air Temperature sensor and th ehole ben driled into the pipe is big enough..The intake is already installed and the filter is on and everything..

Can I just leave off the IAT Sensor? I started the car up and it ran fine without a CEL...If so, DO I have to plug that hole now?

If I do have to widen the hole, how do I make sure I get all of the metal shrapnel out of the pipe? I dont want that going into my engine..

Your gonna have to take it back out and resize the hole. Also there should be a rubber grommet to put in the hole. If there isnt one, goto a parts store and buy one. hope that helps :D

damnit..are you serious? That ******* SUCKS! Takin it out is gonna be a pain.I started it up and reved it a few times and it seemed fine..Do you tyhink driving it like 15 miles would hurt it?..Its my only ride to school tommorow...

BTW..I have the grommet

:wtf:

Are you saying you have an open hole in your intake? if so, you must plug it or all kind of s*** will get in there and into your engine.

Then you have to take it off when you widen the hole.

You will eventually get not only a CEL light but also a check battery light it you wait lone enough. Then your car will not start. The alternator user the IAT to tell how much voltage it puts out. So it's kind of important.

Wait a sec...the altenator uses the IAT to tell it how much voltage to put out? i dont know who told you that but, they were definetely wrong! the IAT stands for Intake Air Temperature Sensor and all it does is, provide constant air temp. to the ECU and compensate for with either more or less fuel, less or more timing, etc.
Dont worry about it right now anyway dude! just place some duct tape over the hole in the pipe and tape the IAT onto the intake pipe. Then, decide whether or not you want to widen the hole and search for an appropriate grommett or just simply plug the hole and leave the IAT as colse to the air filter as you can. If the air filter is in the fenderwell (unlike the K&N CAI) then, just use a plug from somewhere and close the hole and use a zip tie to attach the IAT sensor as close as you can to the intake piping. But I would re-drill the hole wider and pop it in there later.
