CAI numbers..

Does anyone have numbers for gains on an of the CAIs sans MHP. I know someone dynoed with an MHP a while back, but I was looking for the numbers on the Injen CAI mostly.

I don't recomend the MHP. It's diameter is 3". That is way too big for a 2.0 L motor. Unless you are sucking massive air with a turbo. I'm not slamming the people with the MHP though. They look really good with the carbon fiber, but you are going to lose too much torque with a 3" intake. The 2.5" throttle body comes from the factory for a reason, so go with that size. The Injen uses 2.5, so I'd go with that. I custom made mine, if you have the tools, I recomend doing that. Much cheaper too.

not any more they can't source carbon fiber so they are just aluminum now and cheaper.

big Ben I'd like to see how you did your intake. I also custom made mine. I painted the intake too with ceramic engine paint to keep it cool. I drove all day from CA to CO(1200 miles) and it was only about 75 degrees fahrenheit. It saved me so much money

big_ben... well I was just starting to fix up the engine space and would love to make my own intake... so might be a dumb question but where abouts can I pick up the piping for this kind of project. Can I go to a local Hardware store (Home Depot) or do I need to go to an auto/performance store?? I checked out your pics and it looks really good! Let me know!

The cheapest place to get the pipe is JC Whittney. I used 2.5" aluminized steel exhaust tubing. Just because it says exhaust it doesn't mean anything. It is the same stuff Greddy uses for their intercooler systems. All I got was 3 pipes. One tight radius 90, and two normal radius 90's. That's all you need. Then just cut them to fit, mark areas where you want them welded, and take them to a mufler shop and get them to weld it for around $25. But, I'm getting a turbo very soon. If you are interested, I'll sell mine to you. I'll even get it powdercoated for you in any color for a little extra. Let me know if you are interested. Here is my email.

big_ben.... just sent you an e-mail. Let me know whenever you get a chance! :D

Thanks for the info!!!!

Ben, beautiful intake. What did you use for the black rubbery stuff around the piping? what was your total cost?

Thanks for the compliments. The black rubbery stuff are pipe couplings from lowes. My total cost to build it was about $90. I'm posting some newer pics of the intake if anyone wants to see them. They will be in the for sale forum.

Oh yeah, The fitment on the MHP is a little off as well. Probably because of how large the pipe is. I used to have one.
