CAI comparison, MS vrs Injen

not factory but eeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhh they are "MAZDASPEED" accessories and they are warrantied from the dealer with correct install or dealer install compared to other AFTERMARKET cai's....of course they wont give u s*** about a after market intake untill something goes wrong with sensors or u hydrolock ur motor...then u get the "its not MAZDA APPROVED" and ur ******...

haha... lets hope it doesnt come to that for me!... lets pray... but ya it does say maintain your warranty on the website... but like clos says.. thats until something goes wrong and your service manager doesnt wanna fix it...

nothings going to happen that can't be fixed for free. its the right intake. shops just use a generic picture for all intake models. let me know when you get it in for sure man.

On this and other threads I keep seeing people mention hydrolock..

Has anyone here actually hydrolocked their motor without trying to ford a flooded street? I had K&N Filters on all my Jeeps (2 Wranglers and a Liberty) and actually DID sometimes ford creeks over 3' deep w/out any issues (besides needing to change diff fluid afterward, just in case). I've only been on the trail with one person who hydrolocked their Jeep and it was ugly. Young person, being silly (nothing tooo wrong with that other than having to have your Jeep drug down the trails to where it can be towed) and went in a deep area that the water was actually over the hood. But beyond that? Never seen a hydrolocked motor. I know it can happen, but how common is it for a smaller vehicle on public streets?

I had a AEM CAI on my S2000 once ( we all know low that car is) and had to go through a pretty big thing of water. I just pushed the gas before I got to it put the car in nuetral and coasted through. Never had a problem. I don't think hydro locking the car is really an issue unless you are very careless. You know?

i agree. it shouldn't be an issue whatsoever. the filter is over a foot off the ground, faces upward and has factory splash guards all around it.

Kind of what I figured. Just was curious since I kept seeing it mentioned as I poked around here.

I laugh when I hear about the warranty debacle. You keep those service guys on your side, and all is well (just try to pull stuff off if something major happens!!)

I remember when I got my first oil change and ECU reflashed, my service advisor approached me during the close of the service and said,
"I see you've taken the stock airbox and opened it up a bunch."
"Yeah", I said, "I hope that doesn't void the warranty!"
"Unless getting this monster to breathe is a bad thing, I think you're all set", said the service manager. "So, does it help?"
"Didn't I see your tech stomp on it out there?" I expected them to take it for a spin after doing the ECU flash, of course.
"Yeah, he said it has a lot more get-up-and-go then a stock one. Doesn't feel choked."
"Makes you wonder why the didn't bother in the first place!", I said.

thats really cool. i'm lucky to have a cool service manager too. knock on wood... he's got a speed6.

they're the same thing. you won't have warranty issues with either one... the mazdaspeed costs more but filters more particles out of your motor. the injen is cheaper and the filter material flows better. they have the same design only the mazdaspeed uses an AEM dryflow filter and the Injen uses an oiled filter. my advice is to get the Injen... there's absolutely no reason to get the more expensive one unless you think it looks cooler with a mazdaspeed sticker and a grey filter.

i have the Injen btw. it makes my car look and sound tons better and i'm sure gave me a nice boost.

How could you say no warranty issues with a after market CAI, there most certainly is and this has been discussed many times.

Not better just different and paying $90 extra to never have the deal hassle you about after market s*** was worth it to me. That and the MS CAI has a better filter with a shield over it so that was a big factor as well.

Injen is a 1 piece pipe whic I like better so thats one ding against the MS CAI but hardly worth me choosing it over a factory upgrade part.

I just can't see that there would be any difference between the two. My dealer said that there would be no reason for them to ever question the warranty of either intake if it were properly installed and the filter was cleaned on a regular basis. I have recently installed the Injen, and it works just fine. Louder, but you really cannot tell how much extra power it makes. It seems to smooth out low spots in the 3k rpm to 47k rpm. Not much on top at all. I think that a different intake manifold in conjunction with a CAI might perk things up a bit more across the rpm range.

Your dealer is very understanding and quite rare then. Not many dealers would be so cavalier about covering non-Mazda part installations. I can tell you I have dealt with an two Infiniti dealers, one Toyota, and two Mazda dealerships and all 5 were consistent about not covering aftermarket mods or anything related to them. When I had my Infiniti G35 supercharged...they wouldn't even touch the car to do a simple oil change. They said the confirguration of the car had been changed to much and they didn't want the responsibility.
