Bubble in sidewall of tire. Questions.

I wanted to ask if anyone has had major issues with BFG Tires and the stock rims. I've had two bubble put into my front passenger tire within the same month, same rim. First time was because of a minor pothole driving back from Houston to Indy. Then the second time was yesterday driving from Indy to Houston and I never hit a bump at all, smooth sailing the whole way just to find once I park at my house that there is a sidewall bubble in my BFG G-force tire.

Anyone having problems with Stock rims and sidewall bubbles? Any additional issues with BFG tires on them?

Also, I believe I have a crack in my rim. What's my best bet on getting a single rim? How much are they from Mazda, anyone know?

Thanks! Any other advice you have, please add in ;)

Stock wheel from Mazda -- $400 or so. You can buy a whole set for that. Sidewall bubbles are not a good thing, especially in a car capable of well over 100 mph.

Yeah get it fixed ASAP.

Once the steel belts are compromised there is no telling when the rubber sidewall will let go. I believe it is polyester enforced but still all you need is another good hit at speed and you could do a lot more damage.

As far as problems with the stock tires, well bubbles in tires can happen if you hit a pothole just right. The low profile tires don't help, but the fact that you may have a crack in the rim tells me that you hit the pothole harder than you thought. My wife hit a pothole which caused two huge bubbles in the rear passenger-side tire of her Mz5. She didn't notice it but I did when I was gassing her car up. I asked her not to drive the car until it was fixed. Turned out I had to get 4 new tires since the other 3 were at 3/32nds. Luckily the rim wasn't damaged. I believe the tire rim protector on those particular Michelins offered a little more in the way of protection for the Mazda rim.

What scares me is that I have seen more than a few cars with bubbles in their tires. I'm OCD when it comes to tires. Have a habit of looking at other car tires at stop lights. One time I waved down the woman behind the wheel of her Grand Cherokee and informed her of the golf-ball sized bubble in the front tire. She told me to f-off.

People are stupid. And what's worse she'll probably kill a family when her tire fails but she'll survive.

Can you tell this is a pet peave of mine :-) It amazes me that people will cheap out on tires but go and blow a ton of money on useless s***. Christsakes it's the only things between you and the road.

Yeah the bubbles suck! i had less than 5k on my car when i bent a rim and ruined one of my tires, i bought a new one in hopes that this wouldn't happen again..it doesn't help that the stock wheels weigh so much either..replace the bad tires asap if you value your life at all. I found a single rim on e-bay for less than half the cost from the dealer.

I just replaced my wheels because 2 of them were bent. The one that was really damaged ended up having a pretty bad bubble on the inside. Not sure if it was because of the rim but i'm sure it couldn't have helped. And you probably are better off getting some aftermarket rims. The mazdaspeed rims are crazy expensive. I got all four for less than what the 2 mazda rims would've cost.
