Braking Power

Well, we hear a lot about how the MS3 is fast but today I was impressed by the breaking power on my MS3.

This guy started turning in front of me while I was coming to an intersection. Since the road was wet, I applied the breaks thinking I would slow down........my car almost came to a stop.

I def need to adjust my breaking knowledge of the car since it's very well adjusted.

Thank you Mazda.

Yep. I've had a few "oh s***!" moments, and each and every time the brakes have impressed me. Apparently we stop as good as a brembo-equipped Porsche!

I do have an annoying brake shudder at higher speeds though, say above 90 ish.

I wonder if the rear wing helped reduce lift under braking....

kidding.

Anyways, yes, I have also been impressed by the brakes on the MS3 except for the strange noises they made for the first 600 miles or so.

I've never had to test the limits, but I have read that we stop 1 foot longer from 70mph than a C6 Corvette Z51 (handling package).

ya, from what i understand, we do very well with braking on the street (comparatively). on the track, though, our brakes start to fade rather quickly. fortunately, that's pretty normal for most brakes, so if you want to be serious about being on the track, you'd likely have already prepared yourself for upgrading the brakes anyways...=d

I was driving along on my way to work and a pickup truck didn't see me while he was at a stop sign and pulled forward. He was about 30 feet or less in front of me and creeped forward. I slammed on the brakes and ABS obviously activated but I didn't even come close to hitting the guy. It was like I let an anchor go and it hooked itself onto a tree. Granted I do have different tires then stock and propably didn't matter too much in terms of braking...but man did the car bite the ashpalt. As I proceeded past the pickup I gave the guy the WTF look as I sped off.

LOL...I've given that WTF look a lot lately...funny thing is they don't see it because they are on the cellphone still!

I've noticed that our brakes (under normal conditions, not racing) are NOT the limitation of our abilities. It is the traction. The system utilizes everything it can, and it is a matter of the tires from there. I'm sure with racing tires this advantage swings towards the tires instead of the brakes.

You got to think, a Z51 Vette has some wide, sticky tires compared with our 215mm rubber sets. Yes, we have some great tires for the size, but size matters with contact patches.

I posted up a comparison of cars from the C&D list. The only cars that stop better weigh 1000 lbs less or cost 2-25 times as much.
