Ahh yes. Brakes. I need them. Badly. But I'm broke. Therefore, I only want to get the fronts. I'd really like new rotors (not sure if my stock ones are any good). Besides that, I'd like them to be silver colored slotted rotors, matched w/ some nice pads. Anyone have any reccomendations of some nice front brakes and slotted rotors that can be had for $200?

Also, I seem to recall the mp3 having slightly bigger rotors than the other proteges? Is this true?

Discounttiredirect has some hawk pads and some rotors which would all total a little over $200...but I don't know much about them.

I know you can get the front rotor replacements from Brembo for the proteges off of ebay for like 180, not sure if they come with pads or not though.

4 brembo rotors cross drilled and slotted.

theres one that is for FOUR brembo rotors for front and back for any 5lug newer protege, mp3 or p5. This is what I am getting as these auctions are frequent on ebay. Just wont be doing it for another 2-3 months.

Now a comment, why do you want slotted? From everythign I have read slotted rotors are for higher end applications where it si a vehicle that uses the brakes hard and often, like in racing. Slotted rotors work best for this as the slots have a edge on them that actually scrapes the pads clean each time they are used, the down side to this is in street applications all it really does for you is decrease the life of your pads.

For street use I would recommend cross drilled only as then you have the holes for extra cooling of the rotors but no slots to shave em down all the time.

Depends on preference and use in the end.

I just ordered some stuff from:

www.rr-racing.com

KVR Front Rotor Set w/ KVR Carbon Pads $180 + shipping (less than $20 I'm sure)

your choice of cross or slotted

add $25 for Cad platting

cheers

That's tempting. What are Carbon Pads all about? Pros/Cons?

What does the cad plating do?

Cad plating....is for rust resistance....and for cosemetics...Silver/Gold/Black available from RR-Racing.

Carbon pads.....not 100% sure. a couple of Toprotege.com members have them and are in love with them.

you can visit https://www.kvrperformance.com/index.html for more info....also email them...they are awsome at customer service.

Nice find! Althogh I don't want X-drilled. I emailed them anyway.

This is true, but cleaning the surface of the pad can be a good thing (although it may wear it more), but I do some hard driving at times, and my brakes fade...the slots would help prevent that.

X-Drilled aren't good because they crack. On top of that, since there are holes in them, there's less surface area for the pad to grab onto, so they actually brake WORSE than a plane jane OEM pad in most instances.

go with the stuff from RR-Racing...they have supported the Mazda Mx-6/626/Probe platform for a long time...and I have only heard good things about their products from the Probe and Mx-6 guys.

$50 each? from where?

...ractive....anywhere.... but remember, that they come Crossdrilled AND Slotted with no other options. I have seen them up close and they are actually quite nice.

I plan on getting some hawk pads very soon. JAJE has hawk pads on his mp5-T that he road races, and he likes them put says the eat the stock rotors. ION had some Silver rotors.

hey, if anyone has their calipers off, can you measure the size of the oem pistons on the front and rear brakes????? thanks heaps!!!!

i am working on hooking up with powerslot and they offer just slotted for our cars. ill let you all know if i get something going.

Brake parts are identical on ES, P5, and MP3.
