Brake Calipers

So I need to change my brakes.. something about metal on metal grinding sounds getting to me (hahaha yes.. I use to b**** at people for letting their brakes go so bad and now look at me).

My question is this. We have this allen key hole to retract the rear calipers in. Now if I can not turn it this must mean my caliper is siesed right? I'm pretty sure that this is the case right now, but I thought I should double check with the rest of you if it could save me $110.

you're doing "left-loosy", right? With the face of the bolt facing away from you, it's kind of backwards- but it's still left-loosy when you're looking at the face of the bolt.

If you want a good price on a caliper (assuming you need one), call Mike at NoLimits Autoparts. It cost me roughly 100$ for a rear one last year after I got my core charge back.

You could get a big brake upgrade from an msp with some goodies for $1000...i would look into that if i were you. i did the msp upgrade and the brakes feel much better

Rotors and pads for a grand?? Sounds like you're getting ripped off, even in Canada. Check out Tripoint's brake sale. MUCH better deals then that

Well, 4 rotors 140/ea, pads $70, 2 calipers 110/ea and steal brake lines ~100/ea.

It's really the calipers.. The rotors are also pretty pricy.. but everyone else in Ottawa is trying to sell me fucken EBC rotors that are dimpled/drilled and slotted. I dont want sloted because it is not usefull for the streets.

MSP rotors should only cost about $25/ea for the front and $30/ea for the rear. These are for blank rotors.

MSP front calipers should cost about $45/ea + a $30/ea core charge.

MSP rear calipers should cost about $85/ea + a $70/ea core charge.

MSP Hawk HPS brake pads cost $59/axle.

Goodridge SS lines cost about $120.

Of course that is all in american pricing, and he would need to pay for return core charges...and Joe, are you upgrading to MSP brakes in the front or do you just need a pair of calipers?

Right. I can also get el cheapo brake rotors for the same price.

$110 bucks for the both calipers all in all (incuding core charge) I'll probably get money back for my old ones. I think you got your prices mixed between the front and rear on the MSP seeing the front is a bigger piston caliper then the back... but I havent checked for myself. Eather way, add them up and it's roughly the same price as you are saying.

If i were to go with the MSP front rotor/caliper, I would then have to chase down the needed brackets to upgrade mine for it all to fit.

60 / 70 for break pads, depends what you get, I can get $20 ones too.

All in all, I'm think i'm on par. Well the rotors are a little pricey but heck, why not for my baby eh!?

The fronts are cheaper because they are shared with the V6 626. The rears are MSP specific so the cost is more.

actually, the rears really are more expensive then the front. Can't explain why, but that's just the way it is. It's the same deal with the P5/MP3 brakes...I would know since I had to go through the same thing last spring.

Don't know about their prices. Call NoLimits. Mike is a great guy and you said you live in the south end so he's fairly close; on Fenton Road which is near Leitrim/Albion, just south east of the airport

Don't know if Rockauto.com ships across the boarder the eh, but you should give them a shot.
