Bov Question

For those who have the HKS BOV kit is that worth even getting? I mean if you run it in Recir instead on Atpmoshpere is there any point in even having it? I want one but don't want my car to run like crap but want the BOV sound. Any thoughts?

I just got one on Friday and I do not like the sound of it. I am probably going to sell this one and get the Greddy RS kit. I know I am going to loose some money to, so that sucks. IMO, it isnt as loud as the stock one with an intake until you are at full boost and change gears. Plus, it gives the "turkey" sound when you change gears in partial boost. I dont like that. I would get the Greddy if I had to do it all over again. That's my thoughts.

Your car running bad? You using it in Recir or Aptmoshere?
Recirc. It is running fine. It may jsut be my car that does this. I dont know. There is one other Speed 6 in my area, that I know of, that has the HKS kit also, and when I heard him drive off, it sounded just like mine did. My car is fine and never had any problems with it.

Save your money...unless your planning on upgrading your turbo and as far as I'm concerned, Mazda did their homework on this car, does not need one anytime soon...I took mine off the BOV after about a month...

yeah the bov's stock on these cars can handle over 18psi i've heard. a mazda tech told me about 17. either way unless your lookin for the ricer effect of having cool sounds, its pointless unfortunately. money could be spent else where. unless your rich and have everything else lol.

so ya'll are sayin that the cars stock bov sounds better with a CAI. over a hks or greddy with a CAI.??

Actually, yes...I hear the "ppsssstt" alot clearer...and my buds thought I installed a different valve, saying the HKS sounded like bad flutter...not dogging the HKS BOV, with the Mass Air set up on these cars, its just not needed...stick with stock...like the saying goes, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it...":)

i see!!! well that saves me almost 300 hundred than, huh?
k coo thanx for the info....

I just installed the HKS SSQV bov yesterday, and I ran both open atmosphere and recirc. The recirc ran good but no sound and running open atmosphere, it was louder in sound and ran just as good.

if you want something you'll hear while also recirculating, the greddy type s is a good option, BUT they have a bad plastic diaphragm in them that is prone to breaking over time. that being said, i've used 2 different ones on my couple of dsm's without problems...the recirculating turbo xs will sound pretty much the same if not a little different than the hks recirc and the greddy rs recirc. they have a similar whooshing sound. between me and my friends local around here we've gone thru pretty much every type of blow off valve just for s**** and giggles.

Yes... you are right. Only replace the stock BOV when you upgrade/change the stock turbo.
BTW... if you want a loud sound, get an air intake. I have the MS6 intake.

I agree
Since I put on the MS intake I am happy with the way it sounds even the wife likes it better and she was the one that really wanted the BOV / Recirc.
Although I do like the sound of the Squirrel mincer that was on the Prodrive P2
What brand is that? and is that valve flutter that you hear?

Can someone tell me what I need to run vta if I buy a bov. Im going to buy the greddy s type but theirs no kits for it so do I need something to block up the recir hose or something, I know I need the greddy plate adaptor but anything else?

just a plug, but i dont recomend 1. the type s and 2. recirc it, vta isnt good no matter what any1 says. even a hybrid one
