bottoming out...?

so when i got the car the guy had 18" rims on it because the racing hearts were scratched up a bit (but i do still have those) and so whenever i've got a full load (me and 3 passengers...) and i hit a little bump in the road or some railroad tracks my car makes like a thud sound... i don't think i'm actually bottoming out with the road... but maybe the exhaust is hitting against something?

anybody know what i'm talking about, or know why it's happening, or if it happens to you guys too.... and is it really bad for the car/ anything i can do to fix it?

If you hit the bump stops you would feel the suspension stop compressing violently. Do you have stock springs? Could be the inside of the tires hitting the strut perch. Get up under there with someone putting weight in the back.

yea its all stock right now (Except the shifter knob haha)

i'll do that and get back to the thread... if so is that bad?

i have 18 inch wheels and when i have passengers i also get thuds when goin over bumps. i am lowered on tein springs with illumina struts. i think im hitting the underside wheel well with 215/40 tires

If you hit them with too much speed it can definately cause damage. But slow down over speed bumps to where you barely hit.

Your hitting your fenders... I have the same issue... you need to A) Cut your fender flairs. if you look above your tire you will see the lip you need to cut. OR you need to "Roll" them...

Hitting your fenders only makes a rubbing sound and puts gashes in the tires or tear up the fenders...but hitting the strut perch with wheels with the wrong offset or hitting bump stops too hard can cause damage.

I have a bit of experience with the clearance issues with this car!

according to the fitment guide, i should have went with 35 series tire and maybe i wouldnt have any rubbing. If i adjust my struts to stiffest, i usually dont have a problem with passengers, but then its a tad on the harsh side when its just me

ya i know there is some rubbing on the tires.. but i'm more concerned about the thuds

and i do try to slow down... but you can go like 10-15mph on a highway..(which is where there are some pretty mean railroad tracks)

so what do you mean roll them...

and cutting them? does that change the appearnce onthe outside or is it just something on the inside i'm cutting off?

Your fenders have a 1/4" lip on the inside edge that can be rolled further than 90 degrees or whatever to give a hair more clearance to the tire.

^ugh so ruude.

what kind of suspension does the car have? is the noise a Thump or a grind. i know and experienced both :- / scrubbage and stoppage
