Bottom engine cover CX9

I was wanting to know if there should be an bottom engine cover on my CX9.
When I changed the oil I noticed there wasn't one, but there are threaded holes for one.

My 2008 GT AWD didn't have one. Easiest car to change the oil on I have ever had, although the lack of protection for the oil pan and filter for an SUV is a bit surprising.

Just remembered he wanted an engine for a taxi, so the 2 engines that i had mention are not going to suit his purpose then.
