Hi Michael,

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

The BOSE Centerpoint System only works with the CD player. The other formats( iPod, Satellite Radio) are compressed audio and do not have enough data to synthesize the surround sound.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda.

thank god i have the base radio !!! Will soon upgrade the system

The response you received from Mazda is incorrect. I had the iPod adapter installed last week and the Bose centerpoint feature DOES INDEED work while using my iPod.

unfortunately I seem to have lost all my AM/FM radio stations which makes me think the tech disconnected my antenna (accidently) while installing the iPod adapter.

Well - considering how CenterPoint works - it may be "enabled" (accidentally) while the iPod is in-use, but it won't really do a great job on any compressed material. CenterPoint acts VERY similar (if not identical?) to Dolby ProLogic decoding... it examines the waveforms in both channels and makes decisions about how to deal with that audio based on some criteria:

If a waveform is equally present in both L&R channels (panned center) it is artificially "removed" (or cancelled) from the left & right speakers and sent directly to the center speaker.

If a signal is out-of-phase with itself in the opposing channel, it also gets removed from the L/R mix and sent to the rear (surround) speakers.

It creates an artificial soundstage - again, almost identical to Dolby's ProLogic.

If the source material is not full-resolution, uncompressed data... then it will have a difficult time processing the information.

( my 2-cents ) :)

They also decied to answe the send question:

At this time, Mazda is looking into the possibility of an auxilary input for this type of model, but ther has been no mention as to when that will be coming.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda.

Looks like we may get an aux port after all, every one needs to write/email!

Ditto here also. I have the Audio Link MP3 USB integration kit and
Centerpoint does work.

IMO, this is a mute point because the Bose Centerpoint is useless.

The Bose system in the deep dash with the majority of frequencies coming from the L/R dash speakers provides a great stage with a nearly centered projection for the voice and major instruments without Centerpoint.

With it on, the Centerpoint sounds too much like it's coming from the speaker, and not from the windshield or beyond, like it should be.

And yes, I tried it at all levels of output; low to high.

The Bose system in normal mode is the best Bose sytem I've heard. Actually, it's the only Bose system I can actually listen to without the strong desire to replace it. :D

actually I did not just lose my presets - my radio will no longer tune to any station AM or FM which leads me to believe he did more than just pull the radio. I won't be surprised to find the antenna connection dangling back there not connected to anything.
