Daytime running lights on 2022 CX-5 can't be disabled?

I really like the look of the 22+ with DRLs off.

sadly none of the CX5 uses those for DRL as they are not designed for it. even outside North America. In EU they have a small bulb (that is the DRL) next to the front blinker in the headlight assembly that lits plus these semi-halo rings. We are missing this bulb and the programming turns off the semi-Halo rings in default mode.

The default in the US uses both the main bulb and the LED accents simultaneously. That was true pre-2022 also; they just changed the visual design.

Mine is a 2020 edition and this is what I did: I pulled out the DRL relay from the relay box (under the hood, left hand side) and switched the turn signal stalker to the "position/parking" light. It's not auto but now your DRL are off and, as a safety bonus feature, you have tail lights on all the time!

The DRLs are dimmer than the normal headlights. Why would you not want the added visibility to others?
Yes, prioritising “looks good” ahead of safety….

Some years ago this video clip was released by the metro in Melbourne Australia in response to people ignoring train level crossing stop signs… sound like we can add “turn your DRL’s off to look good to your mates” to the list 🫣 😂😂
