boosting only 5psi on stock

I just install my gauge last week, and the gauge reads no boost on first gear, boosting almost to 5 psi on 2nd gear, and little over 5 psi on all other gears then it drops back down. I also having hard time getting boost in 2nd gear, I rev it up past 4k rpm and I don't get boost, but sometime if I step on the gas pedal harder then I'll get boost on 2nd gear but the max it goes it's 5 psi, then it start to fall back down. It's this normal?? I got a custom bent cat back exhaust with HKS Carbon Ti muffler, and an Injen CAI.

Might want to check out the install and make sure everything is hooked up right. You should get boost in first gear at higher rpms and you will get boost in second gear. I get boost in second gear by giving it half throttle (sp). In 4th and 5th gear my boost gauge spikes to around 6.5 or 7.

check the vaccum line you tapped into for the boost gauge. Maybe it got pinched, or is leaking...

as it has been said..if you are getting boost in 2nd-5th..than you have to be getting some in 1st gear! Check the vaccum lines!

There were a few people including myself whose MSP's were only pushing 5PSI in stock form.

check for vacuum leaks first off. A vacuum line leaking or not plug in will cause issues with boost.Double check your Injen install.
What is your vacuum reading at idle...?

k, i had this problem kind of. I Would hit 7 1/2 boost spikes for a second switch gears fast. I noticed boost dropped to 5.5 and gradually to 4 as it ran. I got my mechanic to change my vac lines which he only replaced a few, and checked all connections for me. Put a clamp only on 1 side of the T that had my gauge in it. Now the boost is perfect. It doesn't spike as high, but it holds a little over 6 for the whole throttle, my car has crazy torque steer now, and is pulling better than when i first got the car. So i would advice getting small clamps for the T of boost gauge, and change or check vac lines. He also stated that he really only changed the ones that he thought were weak or bad. His assumption was that the bad ones were flexing or leaking etc......Now my needle doesn't shake or anything it is really smooth.

Did you happen to notice that your boost was coming on really slow too? I have the shaking needle, slow to see any boost thing happening and I'm not sure what to do about it.

I just installed my gauge, and hit 5.5psi in every gear. Just like the specs say
Where did you find the specs? I have the workshop manual and it does not list a specification for stock boost. The guys at Mazdaspeed said "The boost level is supposed to be 5.5, though it is allowed to spike up a little. We have no formal documentation." Other than their word, do you have any documentation? It would really help in Solo II to be able to prove it one way or another.

my vacuum reads 22-24 at idle, and I just put my stock intake back on, I'm able to hit 6 psi on 3rd gear now... maybe I have a leak in my injen somewhere, I'll check it after I take my car to the dealership tomorrow.

Actually, the specs I read before I bought the car said 6.9psi not 5.5. My car was at 5 or so, I believe..
