boost question

I have a couple questions concerning boost on an MSP. Some of these may be pretty noobish questions but i have to ask.
1. Is the wastegate the only method of boost control on the MSP or is there an actual boost controller?
2. What is a good aftermarket manual boost controller to buy?
3. What is the highest recommended boost level on stock internals? I've heard like 8 or 9 PSI, but wanna be sure.
4. What mod would I want to get before even thinking about turning up the boost?
Thanks for any input,

1. Is the wastegate the only method of boost control on the MSP or is there an actual boost controller? Internal Wastegate only
2. What is a good aftermarket manual boost controller to buy? Boost science
3. What is the highest recommended boost level on stock internals? I've heard like 8 or 9 PSI, but wanna be sure. With supporting mods 10 works for most people.
4. What mod would I want to get before even thinking about turning up the boost? Exhaust/FMIC
Thanks for any input,

(iagree)

but I would just use the $5 spring mod on the wastegate actuator instead of a manual boost control.

Just because its effective enough and much cheaper (and no spiking either, which I think is good)

*Da Spring Mod* is definately the easiest/cheapest way to boost an extra 2-3psi. I just didn't feel like searching for that link.

FWIW, i told myself i would never up the boost until i had a good engine management along with intercooler and exhuast upgrades, just because of all the stories of the zoom zoom boom club i've read.

Come on man, live a little.
Just not too much . . . .. :D

Yea i figured it was just an internal wastegate. I've never hear bout the spring mod, but I'm still pretty new to my MSP, I only got it like two months ago and still tryin to learn some of the ins and outs of it, but its coming along nicely. Also for the mods for uping the boost I hope to have my exhaust on in the next couple weeks i juss need to have a muffler shop bend me some piping. Then after that is a nice FMIC. Well I'll look into some of that stuff.
Thanks everyone,

Spring Mod- best $5 ever spent. I have been sporting it for like 3 months now, no problems. Also, I got brave and trimmed about 1/4" off so it put me at 8-9 (only had me at 6-7 at first) psi. I dont reccomend doint that tho, im just dumb! Also, if u decided to be brave/dumb like me, I would recommend a boost gauge. A think a Boost gauge
should be your fist mod.

So I was reading this and thought I would chime in and ask a question as well.

I have a 02 ES 5spd. I've got a T25 and OBX manifold with a FMIC sitting here at the house, the wastegate actuator on the turbo housing is dented and the flange wont open...hence me needing a replacement actuator. My main concern is...when I bolt the turbo on and go to drive the car...that I will instantly join the zoom zoom boom club and be out of a car for months until I can replace the motor, or replace the parts I blew.

How much psi can the stock internals take, and what mods, other than common sense things do you all reccomend.

To support the turbo, I planned on going with the SplitSecond AFC/boost controller/digital boost gauge and wideband O2 sensor, since its a package deal, for less than $400. Then go with a Megan Racing, or similar, fuel pressure regulator and adapter. Like I said I have a FMIC here at the house, and my car already has 2.5in exhaust piping as it is now. Rods and Pistons will come probably sometime before the end of the year, I dont want to run more than the stock 6psi from the MSP, just because of the fear factor that the car will go BOOM.

Anyone want to add on to this and make some suggestions? Im tired of going slow, and my wife is tired of me making blow off valve noises when I shift, lol. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Chris
