hi i recently got a new Blitz Dual Turbo TimerX and it comes with a boost gauge and i have joe's mbc also and was wondering what is the highest i should boost without it messin up sh|t in my motor . Also the boost gauge is read in hkPa and i have no idea what i should boost to. i highest i got it to was .51 hkPa and when idling its around -72 ish. Its a stock engine with a mbc and k&n filter waiting for injen to come out into production.

AS I recall, 1 hkPA is 1 atmosphere, or 14.7 psi. So .51 hkPA should put you right over 7.25 psi, which is better than the MSP was originally intended to go. This is good.

Considering that we have a STOCK Protege engine and tranny (plus the LSD and halfshafts, of course) you might want to keep the boost below about 10 psi (around .7 hkPA.) I think many people have found a boost related fuel cutout at about that level of boost as well, so you may not be able to go any further without some more major work... Some of the other guys are much more savvy with this boost thing than I am. I'm sure they'll correct me where I'm wrong...

Best of luck :D

Boosting to 9.5 psi to 10 psi is very popular. I drove MemphisRacer's boosted (around 9.5 psi) MAZDASPEED, and it was nice. I have my Joe P's XZ MBC, just haven't installed it yet.

AGR must be drunk and depressed about selling his gin maker:D

Did't that Karen Carpenter off herself with Anerexia or some eating (I suck too bad to live) disorder?

1 hkPa is = 14.5 psi (not exactly 1 atmosphere), soo

.51 hkPa = 7.4 psi

I'm guessing that is your peak psi...normally if you watch it, I'm sure it probably stays around .49 and maybe .50 (about 7.1 - 7.3 psi), which is where mine peaks at.

As far as how high to turn it up...well people have played with 14psi and noticed pinging around 3-4k rpm, but didnt' have a problem with 11.5 psi. Personally, I'm leaving mine stock, but if I would increase it, I would stay below 10psi (probably no higher than 9psi) on stock internals anyway. Call me a pussy or whatever, but 2003 engines are not cheap, and for legal/smog reasons you cannot replace your motor with anything older than what was originally in your car (i.e. no 2002 engines in a 2003 car....of course that's usually only an issue in CA, but any smog station could bust you for that).

just my $0.02

that .71 is high how does that feel?
and yea my peak is around .40 but my higest tiday was .52 :)

you guys need psi gauges (why bar?) 10 psi is great for the street (can win most races) 12-14 psi is great for the track
