While I haven't gone back through all the old threads on this site (GoldWing, Phil & ZoomVT :) ,) and I don't have the $4000.00, nor want to really go through all the trouble to turbocharge, though I would if I were twenty years younger and could afford it, I also haven't seen anyone talking about altering or replacing the throttle body with a larger one. More air, more fuel, more power. Has anyone tried this, or does any AM company offer such an animal?

Cosworth has one that bolts up with a little modding, but I remember reading that it will throw a CEL plus you have to change from an ETB to a wired. In short time I believe they will be comming out with them, (I may be talking about the whole intake manifold so if I am plz excuse me) cant remember smashed my head a few times today on the mtn. =)

There are no larger aftermarket throttle bodies for the Mazda3. And it would be wat too much work to adapt a cable TB.

I agree. A cable would be very difficult to make work with such and intricate electronically controlled system.
From your statement, I take it there were AM TB's? Why, from your knowledge or opinion, did they stop?
And what about the Cosworth TB WetsuitxNinja mentions?

So THAT's why you wear that bandana (sweatband, dew-rag, etc.) on your head? :)
Hey Ninj, thanks for the reply. What do you think about the post below yours and adding a (mechanical) cable in the system?

to make more power out of a n/a engine you are heading down the right road... with a cai/exhuast combo i would look next into a header and lightened flywheel from there you would should lookinto lightened pullies and hopefully by that time there will be an intake manifold out that will work without tossin CELs.... if you really wanted to drop some coin i believe cosworth makes a head that will bolt up with all new valving and some high compression pistons and forged rods.... with a correct tune i think they said something around 240hp and that was without vvt....

Oops az is right my bad, it wasnt the TB, it was the intake mani. Someone on another forum had done it.

And I have no idea what amount of work would be needed to switch to a cable....but I would pay $$$$ for a cable to get rid of that god damn etb.

I don't know if a cable would really make a difference though Ninja. The FI would still be controlled electronically as would all the other emissions and control systems. It might be worse, or not make any difference at all. 'Course I'm speculating here....
And, what is that first sentence? (thumb) I think maybe ya' betta' sta of them ther' mountains, Son. Yu gonna hurt ursef! :)

HA, s*** we just got some rain in socal, hopefully a few inches of snow in dem hillz.

I was saying azmz3 was right, what I was talking about was a focus intake manifold, not the throttle body, and someone had fabbed it up on a mazda3.

Moderator,
I realized after I began this thread that there was a better place for it. Thanks for moving it there. (Forever a newbie! :) )

Is there any advantage to going through the trouble? An aluminum intake perhaps? Better porting? I am not at all familiar with the Focus engine.

(jacked) n20 is the best bang for the buck. for what you'd spend on intake work, you could get much more hp out of a wet shot.
