yeah i can't wait ... i hope the rest of the transmission still looks pretty good ... i mean, i've been boosting over 15psi for a little while, went through a blown engine and a melted set of forged pistons ... i hope it didnt affect the tranny too much.

my car's been at the shop longer than i've had it in my possession. i've been really careful with the transmission though, shifting carefully n stuff ... i am pretty confident that they won't find anything bad in there

i'll let you guys know

You are one lucky guy. See if they will let you weld it before they put it in. Talk to the service manager directly, and maybe he'll let you do it, but then they might not warranty the new lsd.

I know how you feel about not having your car. I've been without mine 5 out of the last 9 months, and the time i did have it was in the winter, so it wasn't nearly as much fun as it should have been. But it'll all be worth it once i get her back...

Metal: Can you pm-me infos about you and your car? I never saw you I think and trust me I know pretty much all the nicest Pro's around here in Quebec...

Sorry, kinda off-topic!

On topic: Please give us updates on how Albi did the job and how much it cost to you. This winter I will probably buy a reinforced Mazdaspeed LSD through Protegegarage, so any info on Albi is good!

I did speak to the service manager monday and he's the one who called me back yesterday. i will definetely ask him to give me the lsd before they install it so i can have it welded. i don't mind them not warrantying the new one ... if i blow a welded lsd it means something went wrong that falls in their cathegory of things not to warranty the car for (evil)

My car has been drivable for a total of 4 months since october 2004. i've had it for longer than that, but at one point the stock clutch slipped so much it was undrivable... then more and more problems including a set of melted forged pistons ... lol

hmmm ... i didnt buy mine from a MAzdaspeed dealer. they had Mazdaspeed proteges at every mazda dealer around here.

The dealer i'm dealing with is Albi Mazda in Mascouche (bout 25mins away from Montreal, close to where the 25 and the 640 cross).

Where do you live?

I live in Vermont. I was under the impression (mostly from my two local dealers) that any Mazdaspeed (*insert flavor) purchased had to be serviced by a MS dealer as well. I didn't/couldn't buy a MS6 based on this, but really like the MS3 that's coming out.
So if my local dealer can perform service/warrantee work on the MS's, that would be coool. FWIW I have never brought any of my cars to a stealership for work, but the MS3 would be a 1st yr run, so I know what that means......

UPDATE

so the tow truck picked up my car at 1pm yesterday and a couple hours later the transmission was already out of the car. The service manager called me this afternoon to confirm that the problem really was the lsd and that the rest of the transmission didnt look like it was abused so GOOD NEWS they're gona fix everything.

they're also going to change the reverse gear ... i usually drive my car until late november / early december even if there's a little bit of snow outside. I got stuck in the snow one day so going from 1st gear to reverse to try to get out damaged the reverse gear i guess. so they're gona take care of that too.

What a nice guy... He commented on my extra injectors and my intercooler. he also said i had a lot of wiring in the car lol so i told him about the mpi tuner and the j&s. he said he thought i had a nitrous kit under the hood but when he took a closer look he realized they were extra injectors. He was like "it's not a good idea to put nitrous unless you forge the engine" so i told him "i wasnt really gona tell you but yeah i blew the engine last year and rebuilt it with forged rods/pistons already". "that's the only way to go" is all he said haha

i wish all service managers were like him

he will call me tomorrow to give me an eta on the lsd

Great newz Metal....I am going to need tranny work soon myself Im afraid. R U going to weld the LSD? I am...since mine is not covered under warranty. Considering some different gears as well...

Heh, your guy is cool and seems pretty knowledgeable. One service guy at my local dealership told me I could turn my boost up to 12psi and I'll be fine(ughdance)

im going there tomorrow night to rent a car and ill talk to the manager. he was pretty cool about my mods and telling me things like we should forge the engine n stuff so i'm sure he'll be ok with my taking the lsd to get it welded before they put it in the car. only thing is its probably gona void the warranty on the lsd but eh, if i blow the welded lsd something REALLY went wrong and mazda probably wouldnt warranty it anyway

lol, yeah I'm tuned @ 10psi, gonna wait on my block before I go higher.

wise decision lol

So the manager is supposed to call me today with an ETA ... he said that its ordered from Mazda USA and if it's in stock it'll take a week if it ships from PA or 2 weeks if from CA but if it's on b/o then we never know ... he once waited for 1 1/2 month for an lsd =\

hopefully they have it in stock

i can't ******* believe it.

here's a summary of the whole story:

Sunday. 5h30pm, i go for a ride after fixing battery and voltage issues ... 5mins later ... blown lsd
Monday. Afternoon, i call the guy to tell him i think i blew the lsd, he said he was gona call his mazda warranty rep and call me back.
Tuesday. He calls me back to tell me they can do it if the tranny looks ok so i took the car down from the jack stands as soon as i got back from work.
Wednesday. I called the tow truck at 11am. They picked up the car at 1pm. At 8pm the tranny was apart and confirmed the lsd was the problem, they ordered the part right away.
Thursday. around 9am, he calls me to let me know that they took out the tranny the night before and that the lsd has already been ordered. He was going to call me friday with the ETA mazda gives him.
Friday. he called me at 9am to tell me he might get the part today or monday but that there are other engines and transmissions to be put back together and 1st in 1st out rules apply. he thinks he'll finish my car tuesday or wednesday.

infuckingcredible. When i spoke to him thursday i wanted to ask him when my car was scheduled to go in but it was already done and part ordered. I was really impressed but even more now that he told me the part will get here in a day or two.

I wana marry that guy

HAHA even better. he just called me to tell me the lsd is already in the car and it'll be ready in about an hour

Holy s***!
When my car went in for a new shift fork, they had my car for 3 weeks the first time, and almost twice that the second time.
So much for getting it welded huh.

yeah well he said he tried with the shop manager and the tech and he can't let me have it before they put it in the car. he was like "what if someone in the garage sees me do it or hears about it and talks to a boss or files a report with mazda or something, i'll get in trouble and you'll have to pay for the part they won't honor the warranty anymore".

i didnt wana push too hard. he's been great. They took the car in and 48 hours later the lsd is already installed and the car ready to go. i'll take care of the lsd later ... i'll go see a guy i know and ask him to take it out and weld it. at least i got the part for free + a new reverse gear

Looks like I may be doing this sooner rather than later too. I already have arranged with my mechanic to weld the LSD and got a new ACT Stage 1 clutch.
