Stock on Stock absolutely the M3 is going to be a quicker car. You're paying double the price for 70 more horsepower, big deal. You're paying for the name nothing more.
Heh.. I think it's a little more than that. I own an E46. Not the M3 though. There is a rather large difference between the Mazda 3 and the BMW. I won't further bastardize this thread other than state the differences are greater than the name alone. I like my Mazda more. The bimmer is a better trip car. The Mazda is more fun and more visceral IMO.
Well i almost bought an 03 M3 but i couldnt bring myself to spend $60K a car that i knew i was going to mod, but wasnt about to get into the $2000 a mod trap.
I did pre-order the 2008 M3 with the V8 as long as it wouldnt be any more than $65K out the door. I put down $10K and was called up by a my dealer in July. They told me the car is going to be more than that. I laughed and said, the day i pay more than $65K for a ****** 3 series, will be the day i surrender my citizenship as an american. Hell i could of bought a mercedes C-55 for 49K in June.
Bottom line is, dont be scared of M3's... aside from their badging, your CAI equipped MS3 will whip on em. Swamp, sorry i jumped you. Im just sick of people saying that MS3's arent fast, esp when modded and commanded by those who beat on their cars (kiss)

I got to drive a buddy of mine's 06 BMW M3 MTX over the weekend. The car got tail happy going around a corner..not sure if the traction control was on but it was dry out.
I must say that thing loved high rpms. I drove it in normal mode.
My friend drove it in sport mode..and i must say it's really quick. On couple quick straightaways he was at 130mph and the car was still pulling..he told me he has taken it above 150 before but has never taken to the track. He also mentioned he paid a little over 60k out the door.
I have yet to drive a MS3 but compared to my MS6..he's def faster..
But not off the line.

An MS3 will usually whip a E36 M3. As for the E46 M3 it often comes down to the individual cars and the driver's ability; published tests show the E46 manual running mid-13s while the MS3 usually runs a 14.0-14.3. I considered a CPO M3 but I finally went with the MS3. The money saved has been deposited into my M1 acquisition fund.

Well it's going to have a lower 0-60mph and quarter mile since it's a rear wheel drive car, from a roll the MS3 has a good chance with slight bolt ons.

I don't think it's a matter of "resident experts", I think it's simply a matter of having some time behind the wheel of an M3 and being completely honest.
You're the only fella I am aware of that can out launch an M3 in an S3..

I'm sure he got bogged down when his engine started to moan is when I started pulling hence he wanted to go again because his DSC was on he said . Didn't know they had DSC ? Well anyway today I've noticed that my speed3 doesn't bog down anymore it cuts boost but not like it hit the brakes or something like it used to do when I first got it.

How many years do you have behind the wheel drag racing? If you have over 20, than you can be considered a hell of a driver... Ive never seen a group of people scared of M3s in my life until i came here.
