Blown motor?

Not exactly sure what i did to my MSP but a couple months ago i was getting up to speed on the highway when i started to get what i think was fuel cut. (violent shaking in 3rd gear between 3000 and 5000 RPMs) followed by what sounds to be a rod slapping around, nothing was blown out the block so im not entirely sure what the problem is. Any suggestions would be great. If it does turn out to be blown any suggestion on rebuild kits? I have my eye on one at *************.com. Please help in major distress motor just went on my winter beater too.

Yeap Sir most likely rod knock rebuilt kit are mainly for people knowing what they are doing and have alot of time and no room for errors .. Just get a used protege 2.0 or 626 2.0 motor and pay me to do the swap :)..or a local shop

Thanks maybe if you were a little close to WI I could pay you to do the swap. I do have a few people that could possibly rebuild it forged for me but that is still the most expensive option. Where can i get a cheap stock MSP bottom end?

I bet he was and he spun a rod bearing. The two main reasons I think our cars blow up is low oil pressure and spun rod bearings. MAM use to do something special with the thrust washers to keep the crank from walking...

Yeah it was definatly boosting at 3000 but not sure how high its been awhile since she blew. but i would have to guess i was around 8psi. talked to a few friends and spun rod bearing seems to be the most common answer

thanks for the info, usally sounds like people boosting low rpms high boost when these motors go. Good luck with the build. Take pics when you can.

So let me get this straight i can either:
1.Get it rebuilt
2.Swap one of the protege garage motors
3.Swap a 2.0 liter from a different mazda
Just making sure im on the right track as far as what choices i have in replacing my blown motor

you can also get it rebuilt with forged internals, and if you swap a different 2.0 liter avoid the 626 ones. several have issues with the sensors. you can do it, but its more work and research.

Thanks for all the great info. now its time to wait for a hopefully good tax return and make up my mind. Hopeing to go forged
