Um still some bulls*** in that price. Your coils are fine, this isnt related to any issues your having. Clearing codes? unplug the battery for a while that will do it, or buy and return a code reader (free!).

So your bill should be $150 for the machine work and thats it!

actually I think that's what they used - it was more than just a coil - it was a threaded cylinder...

not jiffy lube but close enough - I know, I'm a dummass but I was in a hurry - needed to get it done before a road trip, wife was on me to do other stuff to get ready for the trip... blah, blah....

the wire & coil on the bad plug was cooked - I have it

yeah, I know clearing the code takes like 30 secs but I was paraphrasing: He read the codes and did the diagnostic to see if anything else got jacked when the plug blew. The borescoped the chamber, etc...

Still, yeah, he made some $ off me but it's done better and faster than I could do it plus he guarantees his work for 12mos/12,000mi

I would've skipped out on most of that work.

Cleaning out debris pretty much means they hit it with an air hose.

For most shops a diagnostic means hooking up an OBDII scanner - average $80 in labor. Autozone/Advance/others will do the same thing for free.

Plugs and wires could have been bought for 1/3 of that price and they take literally a minute to do.

Either way I'd get a written statement from this shop about the plugs being loose and take it back to whoever touched it last to get reimbursed.

I'll second that.

As I said in an earlier post, screwing up the plug installation was the most likely reason for a plug to blow out of the engine. You're going to need a better description than "loose" though. How loose is loose? I'll go out on a limb here though and guess the lube shop idiots pulled all 4 plugs, then put in all 4 new ones, but then neglected to tighten the new ones that extra partial turn.

Yeah. I know what your saying but the car was already in the shop and in pieces 15 miles from home and 25 mi from work. It's not like I have a flatbed so I can go pick it up & take it home and a 2nd car I can drive while I order the coil and wait 3 days for it to show up...

and yeah - I'm gonna get this shop to put it in writing that the others were loose.

Should take a little bit of effort to take them out. Maybe like a soda bottle? They're supposed to be torqued around 20-30 ft/lbs I think.
