Biggest rims and tires???

I ran into a problem when I put my rims (17x9) on my car. The tires I had were to big(235x45). Keep in mind I'm only doing them 2 @ a time. Right now I have them in the rear. I was rolling down the road and when my cd player went to the next track I noticed, during the silence, that the tires were rubbing against something. I took her back to Tread Quarters and they looked @ it closer. The inside of the tire was rubbing against the shock/spring. I guess I didn't think it was that big a deal so I let it ride. But then I noticed going down the interstate, I hit a bump and this time the outside rubbed against the rear fender well. When I went to take them them off the next day, there was a big ring around the outside of the tire where it rubbed/cut. My question to you is what is the widest tire I can go without rubbing the fenders and shocks/springs(rear and front)without modifying the inside wheels-wells? I was thinkin 225r40's (rear) and
225r40's or 215r40's (front). Does this sound about right to y'all? Help a brotha out if you can...

it all depends on the offset....with the right offset on the wheels...you could fit those tires.....those 17x9's are probably the wrong offset

They may just be too big. You might have to roll your fenders, but to play it safe, I say give Auto R&D a call. He'll let you know if you're trying to achieve the impossible. 408-947-0505 Ask for Sean of Rishie. My personnal recommendation is to take a step down to some 225/35/17 and roll em.

I forgot to add that after I looked @ those rims on my car the tires make my rims look like 16's. The tires themselves are to big(tall) for the rims. I just need to find a tire company that makes 225r35x17(rear) and 215r35x17(front). But if the 225's will fit up front without rubbing on the inside or outside I'll just throw those all the way around it. I was gonna go with BF Goodrich G-Force KDW's but couldn't find them locally. One guy told me that they stopped making them in that size because of "problems" they were having with the tires :bs: . But anyway, I'll post pic's when I get done with the rims. She'll be ph@. Anyway, thanks.

For one. A 17x9 is built for a RWD car. The widest you can go is a 7.5" wheel and a tire that is 215mm wide. I was wondering how the hell you were doing this when I read your mod list recently. I just assumed you made your own fender mods.

You need new wheels completely. Beware of rubbing on the inside strut body as well.

Or you can just wait for him to jump on here and post.:D

17x9?!?! What the hell were you thinking.. wait, what the hell were the people who sold you those rims/tires thinking??

My 19x8's rub as it is.... geez, I can imagine a 9" wide wheel.

Wow. nine inches.
Yeah, talk to the ******* idiots (or crooks, one of the two) at this Tread Quarters. nine inches is just insane. I think you'd have to roll your fenders up into your damn windowsill for that.
We dont even have (as inimical noted) a good 8 inches in the well for a tire of that diameter.
wow, nine inches.

First of all, these rims were on my 93 Z28 first and I already put these rims on my car in the front and back and the only problem was that the tires were too tall and wide, NOT THE RIM!!! Trust me they fit...and they look good too
