Best mod ever!

I love the Keyless Entry on my 2013 CX-5 (not Advanced Keyless Entry). I like to leave my key fob in my front pocket when locking/un-locking the car but sometimes I would accidentally hit the wrong button. No longer.

I've added a small "bubble" of hot melt glue on the 'lock' button. Now I can hit the correct button 100% of the time with the fob in my pocket (even wearing ski gloves).

This is the best 5 minute mod ever!

I first cleaned the 'lock' button with rubbing alcohol while my hot melt glue gun was warming up. Then I put a small dab of hot melt glue in the center of the button. After letting that cool for a few seconds I added a large blob that covered the small blob.

I've been using this mod for two weeks with no sign that the blob wants to become detached and now I am confident whether locking or unlocking the car.

Man, for simplicity you'd think Mazda should have gone with a raised lock graphic to contrast the recessed unlock graphic. Interesting.

Try it first. It only takes 5 minutes. Sometimes it's the small things that are repetitive that make the biggest difference.

It's increased the ease of use tremendously by decreasing my doubt every time I enter or leave the vehicle.

I can think of other names for this mod! How hard is it to feel the plastic divider between the buttons and press the button on the opposite side from the metal loop?

I have Advance Keyless Entry for my CX-5, but at times I would still use my remote. I too find it difficult to differentiate the buttons. My silicone key fob cover helps with the perforation for the Mazda emblem on the fob. Allows me to know which way is facing up with ease.

I will try it, but it just occurred to me that it makes more sense to me to "glue" the unlock button as that's the one I have to drag the fob out of my pocket to use. I almost always lock the car with the driver's door control as I exit.

The problem is when you're fumbling with the fob in your pocket you can't always be certain which way it's oriented. I would think that would be pretty obvious.

On the other hand, if the bubble is put on the unlock button, it ends up near the middle of the fob which makes it less likely you will guess which side of the bubble to push should you want to lock the car with the fob.

I really like the certainty I have when I feel the bump under my thumb. I know I've locked the doors. When I'm unlocking, it's not that important to have that certainty because I'll know soon enough if it isn't unlocked. But, with this mod, that hasn't happened because the bump of glue is near one end of the fob. I just squeeze the middle of the fob near the bump.

I found it uncertain at times, particularly since I don't have any keys attached to my fob. This was never more true than when I'm skiing. I put the fob in the zippered chest pocket of my Gore-Tex shell and it was generally necessary to remove my ski glove, unzip my pocket and remove the fob to lock or unlock the doors. Now I can operate the fob without unzipping the pocket and without removing my glove. That eliminates the chance that I might forget to re-zip the pocket and lose the fob on the mountain.

I usually just feel for the flying M emblem at the top of the fob, and realize the lock button sits directly below it.

But, yeah, for a gloved hand, I could see needing something larger.

I think that if you lock your CX5 with the fob, you are setting the alarm . If you lock from inside the vehicle then you are not setting the alarm. Is that correct? (touring model). Ed

Why not just hit the button on the door to unlock it? You can adjust the lock settings on the radio to where it auto locks or unlocks all doors with one hit of the button ect.

This is for unlocking the car when approaching it from outside. 2012 / 14 (not Advanced Keyless Entry)
