Best Fit coilovers

I have done alot of searching on info about coilovers for the MSP and found that most if not all have problems.
Example:

  • AWR coilovers need a different offset wheels and the strut mounts have issues.
  • JIC rub and need different end links
Can someone please tell me which coilover will just drop in the MSP without mods or problems?
How are the teins?

there are some people that are running the k-sport coilovers and have no problems with them.

I thought I saw a couple complaints but I could be wrong. Something about the dampening adjustment too vague.

Anyone have the K-sports and want to chime in?

Where is the lowest price place to get these?

Anyone have the NEX system?

Tien, AWR and JIC are the best bets, Tien needing nothing extra to work properly.

The worry I have about the K-Sports is that the 36way adjustment isn't very sensitive, so that 1 click or 20 clicks gives you the same dampening rate. Ksport was SUPPOSED to dyno one of their Honda applications, but ofcourse they never posted results.

One bad thing about the Tien SS coilovers that I personally disliked is that there is no pillowball upper mount option, whereas the K-Sport have them included with the front being camber adjustable too.

As for the minor issues with the Ksports, the one issue is the front endlink mount, the old version had a bad location, but the new version has a new mount location so there are supposedly no more problems with broken endlinks. As for the 36way adj Ksports, the complaint I have read about is that there is no CLICK, you just have to guess where you are in the range.

The benefit is that with the pillowball mount its solid metal to metal contact on the chassis giving you a very responsive, direct feel. Whereas a normal upper mount has rubber in it to cushion the spring causing a mushy feel, but more comfort inside the car. Another bonus on the Ksports is that the fronts have a camber plate so you can adjust the camber very easily.

I have JIC's without anymajor fit issues and definitely no need for new end links... I wanted to run a LOT of camber so I modified the rears, but that was my own thing... but heard a lot of issues with people with JIC's..

K-Sports apparently are pretty crappy... Dumb Keola had them after his JIC's (I have his JIC's) and he said he wished every day that he still had the JIC's... they are also notorious from talking to other people to wear out.

Pillowballs are not about solid metal to metal contact, although that is a plus... what it does is allows more free movement of the shock so that the shock compresses nice and linearly even when under heavy load angles... basically ensuring that the suspension geometry is not getting torqued... allows for more accruate damping response and behavior from the suspension due to the lack of "binding" at the top of the shock... keep in mind that a stock shock can't really bend at the top so you have all that rubber up there to allow for some "torsions" a pillowball eliminates this.

I like my JIC's after adjusting them properly. I am dropped pretty low and I used my stock endlinks and no rubbage at all!

I kept mine pretty high.. rim top edge to fender is like 4.25" about a 1.5" gap (two fingers fit in horizontal over the tire. ..) I pre-loaded the springs by about 5/8" (200+lb's preload).. need to set my damping yet.. but I like them so far.

Surprisingly, not too many people know that KW makes a coilover for the proteges (Variant II). I went from the K-sports (horrible exp. imo. crappy valving and spring rates) to the KWs. They don't require any new endlinks and have no clearance issues.

I've also rode in the cars with JICs and still found them to be a little to stiff (also if anything ever goes wrong with JICs, JIC NA has the most horrible customer service I've ever experienced). The KWs ride beautifully on the softer settings and perform well at the track. In my experience, European suspension manufacturers are the way to go =)

Hope that helps.

I have not used or seen KW's, but I do carry them if you guys want a set. I'll dig up pricing.

Later!

Where did you buy the Kws and do you have pics?

Have a part number?

Part number is: 15275003 My pricing I need to recheck, but at this point it looks like 1730 shipped, which is pretty crappy as vivid racing has them for 1440 it looks like.

Later!
