What does anybody recommend for the best CAI available and where to get em' ? I dont want to do a new exhaust yet, but I would like to do a CAI next. Thanks for the INPUT

you're gonna get so busted for that question;)

do a search, grasshopper...there's so many answers to this. (hint - there's a big auction site with much to offer)

Thanks for the input, but I do want a really good one with a nice fit and finish. Worth the extra $ to me. I dont want it to look like a Autozone filter and stuff.

i'd say get the K&N Typhoon intake.....its both CAI and SRI.....so if you live in a place that gets rainy...you can convert to a SRI very easily...

i got mine from performancecenter.com

but there are other places that carry the intake....

or you could always go with the injen CAI...but it does not convert like the K&N typhoon does

E-bay or something generic. Just make sure it's the right one. You can always ask before you buy it. No offense intended to anyone , but there's really no PRACTICAL reason to spend $150 on an intake.

Oh god, not again. Look, The only difference between an Injen and an Ebay cold air intake is that the Inejn one says "injen" on it. It's CARB approved too, but you can mae an Ebay one carb approved with a sticker. There's no difference in the routing, the size, anything! If you want a colored one, get it powdercoated. If you want the brand name, and are willing to pay 3x the money for it, then I'm happy for Injen, but you're crazy.

The typhoon is pretty cool, but it's like $80 over the injen price! I mean a CAI or SRI is only gonna give you maybe 5 hp. At most. Basically you just gotta decide what it's worth to be able to flaunt the brand name.

LOL. How true. They are ALL just a tube with a cone filter :D

HAHAHAHA!!!! I once asked this question and man did i get ripped into also. Anyway I use the Injen but a lot of people will say that K&N is better. Then you have your ebay bitches and so forth. My take on things is that K&N is best mostly b/c you can go SRI or CAI with minimal amount of time. Injen works great for me but a lot of people complain that it wiggles back and forth while the K&N is very rigid. Also the Injen rubs against some brake line and starts to run a hole in the silicone elbow. So far as i know AEM only makes a SRI right now. eBay bitches will argue all that i just said. My take is that if you dont mind spending about 150+ get the Injen. If you are cheap get the ebay and hope for the best. If you want to spend extra get the K&N.

Hope for the best? (dunno)

It is IDENTICAL to the Injen one! I dont know how many times I have to say that.

Beware in this world you get what you pay for......you can run the risk in getting an Ebay CAI, but i herad some complaints about em...so becareful.

Just looking at the pix on this link, you can see the quality differences between the two.

Such as? Mine looks cheaper because it IS cheaper. It's plain polished metal with blue connectors where as Lukes uses color matched connectors and vacum tube, so of course it looks different. If it's a big deal to you, go paint or powder coat the tubing and buy matching couplers and vacume tube. The point is, the quality is not effected by the way it looks. They're both bent metal tubes with a filter on the end of them.

eBay: Cheesy chrome finish over who knows what qaulity metal bent to who knows what standard.
AEM: Quality powder coating over high quality Aluminum bent to specs garnered over much research and testing.

eBay: Crappy-looking rubber couplers
AEM: Quality silicone couplers.

eBay: Need I say about those one-size-fits-all brackets and the way the intake fits. It's all been complained about over and over again on these forums.
AEM: Custom brakets brazed on where they need to be insuring a perfect fit.

You comment yourself how much cheaper the eBay one looks compared to the real one. I believe it's more than appearance. Cheaper(and I'm using the term to denote quality as well as price) materials means a cheaper(ditto) product.

I agree about the finish and the couplers, but the metal is fine. I have never heard of the piping on one of these crumbling or rusting or what have you, and mine is still in perfect condition after nearly a year.

"Bent to specs garnered over much research and testing" Again, these are two bent metal tubes. Both Mandrel bent, both following the same route (maybe a few millimeters different). The Ebay kits copied the Injen one, so the "research" is shared.

I dont understand quite what you mean by "one-size fits all" bracket. The kit didn't have instructions included with it, but as soon as I figure out the right way to place the sections of pipe, it all slid right in. The difference between the two cars in the other thread where the bracket is concerned, is that I cut a piece of the coolant can mounting bracket off and flipped the bracket around, instead of relocating it entirely. Mine also sits lower because the little rubber spacer was lost by my idiot friends while I was installing the CAI (headshake

All in all, I see what you're saying, but a cheaper appearence (performance cannot possibly be effected by couplers and the finish of the tube) is worth saving $150 to me. Thinking back, I realize I may have sounded like Injen buyers are idiots, which I DID NOT MEAN at all! I love Injen products and if I had a money tree I would have bought one, but I dont, so I didn't. But in the end it's entirely up to the person themselves and what's important to them
