Best Bang For Your Buck

i am curious as to what people believe are the most cost efficient mods that can be made to the p5.....minus the turbo

What kind of performance are you going for. You could go header, car-back, springs, struts, sway bar. Ummmmm.....what else.....Weight reduction if your serious, lighter wheels. Am I forgetting anything?

edit: Anyone know if anyone is planning a rear strut tower bbrace for the P5?

Double edit:Forgot short shifter and bbbbushings.

in terms of power...headers that remove the precat, new exhaust, CAI. It will cost you about $1K for all of that, and will get you 20 peak HP if you're lucky.

NITROUS!!!!! THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK TILL THE BOTTLE RUNS OUT!!! it is adjustable. it is instant power. it is a great feeling to see peoples faces as u past them up in a protege.

nitrous...but how safe is that realistically on our cars..what sort of horsepower gains could be expected...and what are your thoughts on the VENOM nitrous kit

yeah, im also curios as to how safe nitrous would be on our engines. also, is it possible/worthwile to use nitrous on an automatic?

Didn't you replace your engine already once mazdamastertech? Not saying that in a negative tone...just thought I remember reading that in another thread?

It seems even the Nitrous wiz's are blowing engines...maybe because they are pushing the edge more often...but I still think Nitrous is bad news waiting to happen.

agreed.....you may get it to work for a while....but it will become addictive......and you will start to push it....it always happens....

and before you know it....you will have melted pistons, or a cracked block, or a blown head....or a combination of these....and then you will be out some big bucks to put in a new engine....

in fact....so much that you could have gone TURBO with it.

Nitrous has been some bad juju on this car for some people. I'm sure if you were able to get everything, and I mean everything (fuel, timing etc...) to like the nitrous, then you would be (relatively) safe. But for that kind of money, why not just go turbo?!?

However, bang for buck, the cheap stuff like intake, exhaust, etc. would work out well.

I loved my NOS setup when it was on my Protege... I had NO problems with it whatsoever.... in fact, it wasn't until I removed the NOS and put in a Turbo setup that my engine blew. I ping like a Mofo with the Turbo (needs an intercooler and more fuel), but I couldn't get the N20 to lean out if I tried.

Don't get me wrong, I agree 500% with mikesmazda155....
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR BOOST! :D
