Best bang for $$$$ FMIC

I cut mine perfect, I also used 4 clamps, LOL for the hose I did not want anything popping off, An last night I wrapped the WHOLE hot pipe with BeCool thermal wrap, One the pipe was scorching HOT, and it was rubbing on the AC lines.. BTW did you have to bend your horn, I beeped it yesterday and the whole kit was vibrating.. LOL :0

This is ths stuff I used only $20. Autozone!!

Oh really? Maybe I cut mine too short for the recirc hose.. I used 3 clamps but nevertheless, it's still not long enough.

That's a good idea, yeah it's definitely scorching hot and rubbing on the AC lines.. it'll squeak when hit bumps.. And I think the rattle I get is from the power steering lines because that couldn't get bolted back on on the passenger side.

Hahah no I have't tried my horn yet.. but I didn't have to bend it no.. I didn't have any clearance issue there. The only thing I had to bend was my front temperature sensor I had to bend so that the thing was pointing straight out.

Definlty would suggest you wrap if not for anything else than the rubbing.
Yea the horn was hilarious.. The temp senson on mine was fine except I can not find the DANM wire now.. LOL I lost it in the car(eek2)

Haha you'll find it.. just take off your bumper and look for it. I dunno where it could possibly be since the wire is connected to the one on your driver side fog. I'm also anal about knowing the ambient temperature though, maybe you're not so it doesn't bother you all that much.

I'm taking off again Friday night, I can't stand it.. LOL I'm anal about it also.. UG hate seeing --- Where the temp is suppsoed to be. :/

Hey did any of you remove the plastic piece on the hood the the stock TMIC sat in?? It rubs on the hot pipe also?

Like all the shrouds? Yeah I took everything that was attached to the hood off. Just need to get some double sided sticky tape because the insulation was held up by it and it hangs down a bit.

Thanx I was thinking the same thing will take it off tonight. :) Already wore a hole in my insulation wrap. :(

Maybe I just need to use more, but I've also tried using double sided tape to keep the insulation against the hood and after driving when I pop the hood its hanging down again. Oh well.

I bought that thermal wrap stuff at Autozone, hoping to get that on there sometime this week and that rubbing noise will stop.. Maybe prevent a little less heatsoak from that hot pipe being slightly cooler..

Well I don't know how sound of an idea the heat wrap really is. It's the hot pipe coming straight out of the turbo which is far hotter than the under hood ambient temps I would assume.. So then you are trapping in all the hot air in the pipe and forcing it to go through the intercooler at a hotter temp than if it not wrapped... meaning the intercooler would get much hotter air in and not cool it as much and you could end up with hotter air going into the engine. If heat wrap should go anywhere it should probably be the cold side.

I am not saying this as definite but it seems to me that would be the case.

We both may be wrong but we wrapped the pipe that runs from the TB to the intercooler, The one that goes over the vavle cover and jams down next to the AC lines.

Actually, there are 2 types of wraps.. There's the wrap which keeps heat in and that's for exhaust manifolds n'stuff to prevent heat from coming off of there and into the engine bay..

Then there's the wrap we're using that actually lets heat out just fine but deflects heat so that heat doesn't enter into it.. So I think for this type of situation it makes total sense to use it. It's an easy adhesive to add/remove I guess so I'm going to put it onto the pipe coming off the turbo as well and see if it makes any difference, if the difference is towards the worse.. I'll just remove it.

But yeah the wrap for the pipe going down to the IC is strictly for the rubbing issues we're having.

For those that haven't installed yet, it is highly recommended you paint the bracket...

I put my front mount on probably 2-3 weeks ago now but I noticed it rusting only after a week of it being on.

I took it off and painted it with 4 coats of flat black.
(Sorry I forgot to take the after picture as I was rushing to get it all back together before rain)

And those that were having the rubbing issues with the lines that you have to move (power steering?) to put a hot pipe there, this is what I did to make sure it wasn't rubbing.

It is just zip tied through the bolt hole in the bracket to a hole in the radiator support.

Also installed a low tone horn!

Nice pics man, Thanx, Yea my bracket rusted during the install??????? s*** bracket.. LOL
the rubbing I have is the AC lines up top. PLus I have to lay my temp sensor on the skid plate or it would have dented the Intercooler.. AN I had to move the horn also.. LOL I beeped it the day after I installed it and whole kit was vibrating.. LOL :O

Yeah I didn't have much problems with the horn area. I did have a problem with the ambient temp sensor though (I didn't realize the first time I installed...) and so I just took it off the bumper and slid it in to a slot that was on the drivers side (near the coupler of the intercooler) and left it there.. But this time I bent the bracket a lot trying to get it fit in the stock location but I didn't like it sticking up in front of the intercooler. So I flipped the bracket around and zip tied the sensor to the bracket and used a bolt from power steering bracket that you had to remove and bolted into power steering brackets spot on the drivers side..

I should have taken pictures of that, but I might still be able to.

Hey guys,

I finally received my intercooler and I can say it was a complex job install. First of all I didn't receive the plastic couplers with the kit. When I was installing the pipes I had a real tough time getting everything to align properly. Eight hours later and one scratched up pipe the kit was finally installed. When installing the bumper back I was unable to fit it back properly on the driver's side.

Did anyone have this problem????

Thanks,

Derek

Cold pipe most likely rubbing on the bottom of the bumper. Check your fitment for rubbing. You may need to dremel the piece of bumper off on the inside to fit it correctly.
