Best and Worst moments with your MSP?

ive had my screen removed for awhile now. it has not affected the performance of the car negatively or positively.

That's how I felt after driving without it for 2 years. Then I popped it back in and BAM, much better.

If it's not too much trouble, try popping it back in and resetting the ECU. See if it makes any difference in the way the car drives and gas mileage.

Who knows, might be worth it to give it a shot...

Well that's good....my point originally was in those threads was that is it might not hurt performance but it will not help it either and I just feel safer with mine in....I just never saw any point in removing it....our MAFs are already so tempermentally why mess with them.

You have to remember the placement of the MAF as well. Both you and Matrix have a relocated MAF. If your MAF was in the correct position, it woul dnot have mattered if the screen was there or not (referring to the screen catching a piece of the turbine).

For matrix, the relocated MAF plus the screen removal may cause an issue. There is a great deal more of air rushing through the MAF right before the throttle body than when it is at the beginning of the intake system. It would be more important to have the screen/diffuser with the relocated MAF setup due to the larger volume of air flowing through it.

best: when i smoked a audi on 22 pounds of boost and everone wanted to know what kind of car i had
worst: when i threw a rod at 7000 rpms you cant treat these cars likes hondas got my head on right now new motor hasnt seen over 6000 and she is well taken care of

i've been driving wihtout the mesh for as long as i can remember, if i could find a mesh i would reinstall it...still i'm doing 400+ miles per tank...but the car does seem to die too soon sometimes, other times is too rich, other times is too lean....perhaps the reason why...

How the hell do you get 400+ miles per tank? I am lucky to get 312, do they have strict emission standards where you live? i know out here they have s*** in the gas to cut it so I dont know but even driving conservatively i dont get anywhere near 400+ do you have an engine management or fuel managment system?

Worst(so far)
When the dealership told me I needed a new turbo after owning the car for only 4 months

Best
When I bought an extended warranty for my car 4 months prior!

Worst: when my turbo blew and finally siezed

Best: Some time this week when the manifold finally gets here after a month of wating. I pray for a nice swap.

Worst 1: Waiting 8+ Months for TBK Performance to finish my Big Turbo Upgrade.

Best 1: Picking up the car after 8+ Months, and s*** on my pants of how insanely fast came out !!!

Best 2: Going to my friends House, ALEJO_NIN on a weekend after my car was finished, and drive to a hang out where lots of nice modded cars where hanging out, when a Heavy Modded WRX Sti came up to me to ask me if i wanna race him, we raced and we beat the crap out of him by a full 3-4 car length, i was so damn happy, i have finally defeated one of my most hated enemies out there !!!! mission accomplished, I'm sure he is still dreaming about when a Protg Ran Him, not Walked Him !!!!!!!

Worst 2: 5 Days After that great night i had to take a plane to my new home, Spain, and leave my baby back in US until she gets shipped to here in Spain.

Best 3 & Final: on May 20Th I'll have her back in my hands again in here in Spain, with lots of toys i bought to be installed, and the best of all, Owning the Only and most likely Mazdaspeed Protg in the Whole European Union, and no to mention the Only one in SPAIN... I just can wait to have her Back !!!!!

Worst 3: NONE, THE MSP's are just amazing Unique machines if you know how to treat them !!!

Worst moment - Nov 23rd 2006 when I bought it..
Best moment - Has yet to happen..

Sorry, I dont care how much I hate a car.. Im not going to lose more money on it by getting rid of it.. plus the fact that its not running right now is a small problem when trying to get rid of it..

Best: Leaving a guy in 2003 Cobra embarrased in front of his friends on I-15 heading back home with my father-in law from Salt Lake City.

Worst: Blowing the s*** outta my old motor when i was hanging on the rear bumper of a 2005 M3. (this is when my wallet officially started to become empty. HAHA)

how would there be more air flowing through one part of the intake system than another? doesn't it ALL have to go through the WHOLE system? lol

the cold pipe is under boost. the turbo (aka pump) pushes a great deal of air through the intercooler pipe.

the intake air is at atmospheric pressure.

I really hate those that talks s*** about the MSP's but they own one, You can't spec to have a fast car with $ 800 or so in Mods. in order to have something fast and strong you need to put lots of sweat. blood, tears and money on it, and if you don't believe in your car, he definitely won't believe on you. I can only say one thing about my Personal impressions of my MSP, i bought her Weak, About her slow, but now it's bigger, better, and stronger than lot's of vehicles 2 times its price, and wont change her for any other car out there with 5 times her power. i do believe in the power and capabilities of my Mazdaspeed Protg and one thing I'm sure, all of the money, sweat, blood, tears have being well worth it !!!! there is no perfect car but I'm sure with the right parts and work you can sure make something unique, fast, strong. just because you couldn't make it doesn't mean we all can't !!!

Who said someone expected to have a fast car with only $800 in mods? And who only has $800 in mods?

admittedly the air that is there is pressurized, so there is more pressure, but the AMOUNT (mass) of air is the same.

the amount of air is not the same. the whole point of the turbo is to compress the air meaning it is more dense. The greater the density, the greater teh number of moles of air. The greater the moles of air, the greater the mass of air.

if you are arguing that the volume is the same because the piping is the same size (basically the volume of the container is the same), then that is correct. However, if you bring the compressed air to atmospheric pressure and measure it, it will yield a greater volume than the intake air. So again, there is a larger volume of air passing through the MAF after the turbo than when its sitting in the stock location.

OK, you have a misconception or we have a miscommunication

here is my point..

The turbo takes the SAME MASS (moles) of air that passes through the filter... pressurizes it, and stuffs that air into a smaller space. regardless of where you meter it, the MAF always sees the same amount. if you put one MAF before the turbo and one after it, and ran the car for 5 minutes, at the end of that 5 minutes the same amount of air would go through both.
