Best and Worst moments with your MSP?

Oh i didnt know that. I was really dissappointed to see it keep up with me. I thought it had nothing on the MSP. But its cool, no biggie.

Yeah, I had no clue they were that quick. I mean, c'mon, it's a Camry. We don't need grandmas running mid 14's! Against a stock MSP the Camry will win, well until the first turn. (rofl)

All you need is a CAI, turbo back exh., and an AFC, then it's bye bye Camry.

Man I am still in that pit.
I love the car and the engine is rock solid badass but I want some KW coilovers (to replace my current set), 1200 worth of new gauges, new Head unit, some Sparco seats, all the GT SPEC stuff, some 13'' inch 4 piston brakes, and I will probably want some other stuff once I see on someone's car :)
Yeah I am a sick man.
Oh yeah some super light forged wheels that don't look like balls. I haven't found any yet.
Of course I will need to build the tranny even though I have a welded diff because I cant hook up without risking the tranny.
Good thing I plan on keeping the car forever. I will get another car next year but the MSP will be around for a long while.

Worst time: Diff breaking 80 miles from home, in the 106 degree heat and a 245.00 tow home with my teenage daughter who I was taking to ACON :(
Best time: walking sideways in the first three gears after getting my mods done :) WOOHOO FUCKERS! It was great.

I've heard alot of good things aout Konig Britelites, spoke pattern looks good with the msp and it has a machined lip, polished everywhere else except the spokes which come in different colors, but the usual is black. Priced well too.

Best: after the 1 1/2 hour drive to virginia seeing my car for the first time
2. Having turbo kick in for the first time and seeing the difference compared to my 02 protege es
3. Having people do a double take when they realize it's a protege
Worst: After finally installing my intake and hearing that damn turkey!
1. Being bit by the mod bug!

Uh, I know you're trying to defend me, but yeah they are. 13.8's stock.

The thing is, my MSP is fast too. I've got basically everything except intake mani, exhaust mani, and a built motor. Even on low boost with the methanol coming on at 3psi the MSP is faster.

People can talk all they want, but I actually have both cars, so no one's going to tell me what's faster than what.

reason i saw they arent that fast is because ive ran one. from a dig they are great but once you get them on the highway they are really at a disadvantage being as they are awd and weigh over 3200. im not knockin on the car at all i love ms6's my best friend has one. They are great cars but they honestly are not that fast from a roll.

Very true.

I don't usually do roll races, but I did a 50-70 roll in 3rd and 4th in the MS6 and it's a about half a second slower than the MSP.

Now in the twisties, bye bye MS6, no comparison.(2thumbs)

Needless to say, but I love my MSP!!!!

Worst - 1.) Getting beat in a race and finding out it was due to an error I made while modding the car and because I held 4th gear way too long.

Best - 1.) Fixing my mod error after driving for 2 years without realizing the error was causing the bogging, bucking, shudddering, wheel hop, and running even more pig rich than normal. 2.) After installing my CustomMSP SMIC.

WORST: when i saw blue smoke when down shifting for the first time.
BEST: every day at 7 AM when the car is cold and pulls like no other!

So what was your mod error, eh?

Seriously, you're going to laugh and think it's all in my head or I'm an idiot. (boom03)

Anyway, when I relocated my MAF, I popped out the plastic mesh screen in the front because I thought it'd free up some restriction. The car ran pig rich, but I just thought that was normal. I didn't really start to wonder about it until I failed the exhaust-sniffer emissions test here in VA. Apparently the readings from the MAF were very erratic because the mesh wasn't stabilizing the flow of air so the MAF could get an accurate reading. This caused all the problems I listed. The engine was just flooding itself with gas at all points of the rev range, and in the low rpm range the engine was bogging. This last Tuesday I took apart my intake hardpipes, put the mesh back in the MAF, and reassembled everything after resetting the ECU. The car runs like a true champ now and gets better gas mileage.

I should never have removed it.

your lucky that was the only problem it caused, but still something good to know for anyone who thinks about trying to modify their MAF to remove restriction or whatever

i've been driving wihtout the mesh for as long as i can remember, if i could find a mesh i would reinstall it...still i'm doing 400+ miles per tank...but the car does seem to die too soon sometimes, other times is too rich, other times is too lean....perhaps the reason why...

Yeah, somebody on the boards went to a shop and had them get a reading on the MAF signals with and without the mesh on the MAF. Just at idle, the voltage of the signal (without the mesh) varied from nearly dead to maximum and just kept fluctuating. He put the mesh in and the signals were even and consistent.

Check junkyards for any '99+ Protege 2.0 MAF. You'll probably get rid of the dying issue and probably get better gas mileage, too.

I remember two distinct threads where I advocated keeping the MAF screen in for that reason and because it can save your turbo if something breaks off in your intake (which happened to me)...and half the people in the thread would have denied until they died that taking it out did anything to hurt performance...In fact they were justifying that it improved airflow...which is such a crock of sh*t

LOL.

I remember the threads of which you speak, wise one. What you say is true, as I have learned this lesson through experience. Your words should be heard by all in the Hall of Modification.

Yes, I'm a little (screwy)

ive had my screen removed for awhile now. it has not affected the performance of the car negatively or positively.

Well that's good....my point originally was in those threads was that is it might not hurt performance but it will not help it either and I just feel safer with mine in....I just never saw any point in removing it....our MAFs are already so tempermentally why mess with them.
